Yeah, it's some crap. You kiddies go pick a major that you think might interest you know and switch into it ASAP.

If there's some sort of counseling you can get for free to help you pick a major, do it. You're not gonna get much help from FYC.

I could see it being really hard to transfer in to some colleges, but being in FYC lets you at least get your humanities and some of your math/english/science creds outta the way while still being in the college atmosphere and *hopefully* finding something that interests you.

i was never in it, so I dont know how it really works but kudos to those kids that it helps.

Instead of FYC I did forestry. Told the advisor I wanted to transfer into engineering and she let me take whatever I wanted. Trick is you have to keep your grades up and have the prereqs to transfer into engineering (and most other majors).

^

Speaking of which, I need to catch up with my advisor from there. She was a true lifesaver, I owe her a dinner or a cool plant for her office.

Admission to the College of Management is competitive and is based on academic record and space available in the College. Students will be considered for admission if they meet all of the following requirements. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission.

Attempted 30 hours of college level coursework (at least 21 hours at NC State)
Completed English 101 (with a C- or better)
Completed Calculus - MA 121,131 or 141 (with a C- or better)
In addition to the above, students will be considered competitive for admission if they have achieved the following requirements. Meeting these achievements does not guarantee admission.

3.0 or better cumulative NC State GPA
3.0 or better College of Management GPA (calculated on ACC, BUS, EC courses)
Completion of 60 credit hours or less (i.e. students are encouraged to apply earlier in their program rather than later)

funny thing is that at the College of Engineering Welcome, I think the speaker graduated from State with an undergrad in Civil or EE, and then got his MBA, started his own company, and made $bank using his MBA rather than his Engineering degree.

my roommate is still in FYC in his third year. I didn't really like FYC. the advisors didnt really tell me anything I couldnt find online and I had to do a bunch of bullshit projects for the FYC class.

that happens all of the time, however an MBA is much more valuable than a BA in business.

not even close to the same thing.

^Also an employer would rather see someone with a non-business (undergrad) and a MBA, then someone with an undergrad business degree and a MBA.
