^^ This one is pretty obvious that the driveway is inadequate. There is only room for one car.
Also that community is ridden with inadequate parking and they enforce towing on the street. (If you park on the wrong side of the street your car will be towed within minutes) ] 8/18/2008 10:37:15 PM |

i never had any problems with my neighbors. I even lived in a nice part of Cary, family neighborhood where we were the only rental property, with 4 other college students. at first my neighbors (who were all old) were kinda skeptical, but I invited them over for a cookout one weekend. by the end of the night they were outdrinking us. extend the olive branch, bro.

They got rid of the students and now its all section 8 and the duplexes have gone down in value.
I mean it was always doomed to be a rental housing based on the type of housing that was built on the lower end of the street. (duplexes and triplexes packed together) All the city did was push the rental demand way down buy running the students out. gg COR8/18/2008 10:51:19 PM |

I am still trying to figure out what made the guy who made the website think that this neighborhood would not devolve in to student occupied rental housing.......
I mean I am one of probably 8 owner occupants on my street but honestly I do not care. As soon as I move a "for rent" sign will go in the yard and eventually I will be collecting a fat monthly check from this place. I know how to fix drywall holes, do not mind painting, and own a steam cleaner. ] 8/18/2008 10:57:17 PM |

This isn't just limited to University areas btw. Especially with the housing market now, an increasing number of people are having to rent their homes because they won't sell. If you live in a middle-class older neighborhood, there is a good chance that several of the houses are rentals. Shit, I rent my house and I live in a fucking nice ass neighborhood, and all my neighbors have been here for like 20 years. They are just fortunate that I am a good tennant, otherwise I could be terrorizing the whole neighborhood.
and trust me, I have heard horror stories from my neighbors about past tennants. and I am nowhere near a university

it's not the pbr
it's not the tiki torches
its the 50 or more douches and sluts who come out and tear shit up, litter, and cause a metric fuckton of noise. it's the fact that it's not just a case of pbr and 4-5 friends cooking out, it's 10 cases and completely random people.
people just wanna live quietly with their families and have good, clean fun. they don't need your shit, and they have just as much of a right to be there, if not more of a right (significantly contributing to the local economy ftw). 8/19/2008 12:29:29 AM |

i think this is key, no matter if you are a college student or a 30 yo neighbor planning a huge house warming party. let your fucking neighbors know by inviting them to the party. then they will be less likely to be pissed off when they are awoken at 4am by a bunch of drunk people leaving your party. and at the very least, they will usually come knock on your door before calling the cops.8/19/2008 12:55:46 AM |

Students in Your Neighborhood: Good or Bad for Property Values? by June Fletcher June 25, 2007
Quote : | "Question: I own a home right up the street from Central Connecticut State University and am concerned about the future of the community and real-estate values surrounding the university. My main concern is that people are buying single-family homes and not fixing them up, then renting them out to college students. In the long run, will my nice street turn into a slum? It scares me enough to think about moving to a new town or community. Should I stay or should I go?
-- Krista Tulisano, New Britain, Conn.
Krista: Those of us who've accumulated a bit of dust on our diplomas tend to idealize college towns. We remember the cozy brick faculty houses, the wrought-iron fences and the clambering ivy; we forget the unpainted shutters, the broken beer bottles and the weeds.
But as 80 million echo boomers make their way through the educational system, their impact is becoming harder to ignore. Total enrollment in degree-granting institutions is projected to grow between 13% and 18% between the years 2004 and 2015, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, and there simply isn't enough on-campus housing to accommodate them all. As students spill over into surrounding neighborhoods, the inevitable keg parties and dandelion-choked yards become harder to ignore." |
Quote : | "If you decide to stay, however, it may make sense to enlist your neighborhood homeowners association [LOL! ]-- or start one, if you don't already have one -- to talk with the university. According to Central Connecticut State University's Web site, the university wants to maintain good relations with the surrounding community. Among its recent initiatives: A town-gown committee to address unruly behavior and loud parties, and adding more on-campus activities. The university says it wants to expand volunteer programs in the community as well, including one where students rake neighbors' leaves in a gesture of good will. Bring out a tray of hot chocolate and an extra-welcoming attitude when that happens, and you may find that your young neighbors, for all their boisterousness and occasional carelessness, don't really want to live in a slum, either." |
-- June Fletcher is a staff reporter at The Wall Street Journal and the author of 'House Poor' (Harper Collins, 2005). Her 'House Talk' column appears most Mondays on RealEstateJournal.com.
