Seems like a good way to get your ass beat.

Poking someone in the hand, temple, eye, or neck is easy in a class. Things change drastically when someone is throwing blows at your face.

It's good primarily as a control weapon. You can snag the inside of someone's nostril or ear and pin it between your thumb and the kubotan for submission. And you can grab a pinky or other finger and cause submission with applied pressure.

The kubotan can, of course, also be used as a stabbing, scraping, and striking weapon, as shown in the image above. The kubotan is not a prime choice of weapon--it's simply a convenient one. In skilled hands, it can do significant damage, though.

If you can grab someone's ear or pinky you can probably submit them with or without the kubotan.

I heard that a mini mag lite on the keys is nearly as good and got you less hassled by the cops

techniques for submission:

a hold under the arm from behind with the kubotan in the hand facing downwards
press into the pectoral muscle

or

arm around the neck from behind with kubotan pressed into the spine
