Hey guys. I missed the deadline for buying the parking permits. Anybody know anyone selling their permits?....Where can i park for free, and how far is it from the main campus. Thank you!

basically, use a park and ride lot

There may be a few leftover permits, check with transportation. The open auction began a week ago so I doubt they have much. And the ones they have probably suck ass. Unless youre a grad student, the on campus parking will likely suck at this point. The streets N of hills usually are illegal or crowded. Uhhh. Yeah.

You can park at the Food Lion on Avent Ferry and ride the Wolfline to campus... it depends where you live whether that would be feasible or not.

You shouldn't buy permits from other students-- if transportation happens to discover you they will fine you a couple hundred dollars, revoke your parking privileges, have campus police write a citation and send it to student conduct as a disciplinary action. That happened to one of my classmates this summer =(

Just park on the roads behind hillsborough, that's what I do and there is always somewhere to park.

Grad. students don't get any magical permits that undergrads don't get. Parking sucks for us too.

if you were willing to buy a parking permit you could just park in the pay lot some days and use the park & ride others. pay lot is $1 per hour and a max of $6 per day. theres a lot in both parking decks (coliseum & dan allen)

Im a grad student and got a DD (Dan allen deck) permit three days after the open auction, like last week. My friend just got his monday. So yes, they do give preference.

so that whole "you can park in the tennis parking spots for free" thing means absolutely nothing during the school year. all the employees at Clark dining hall get there at like 5am so they don't have to pay for a pass...I'm convinced.

oh - but on a slightly better note, the credit card machines in the pay lots are now working! (most of the time, anyway!!)

you can park on the street near rhyne's gate and U. oaks and ride the varsity bus to campus.

I don't know where you want to park, but Dan Allen has an expanded "pay" lot.

It's a 1.00 an hour or 6.00 for the entire day.

Check with Transportation, they had a nice article about how there are 2k "spaces" open right now. Im betting there are some DD permits avaliable, and I know some EC permits as they never sell out.

Dont bother.. you are just going to drive in circles looking for spots in the decks or park way out in the middle of nowhere and have to hike to your classes. They must have sold twice as many passes as they have spots. Save the money and use the pay lots or park behind hillsborough.

for sure. I used to ride my bike from wood hall to class a lot freshman year. Had a lab in leazar or whatever at 8am and that year was probably the coldest winter I remember from the 4 years I had at state. That bike ride in the morning was BRUTAL. But my options were:

walk - slow and cold ie staying in the cold longer
or
bike - twice as fast (more im sure) but twice as cold

I also specifically remember a bike ride to a basement show on ashe avenue in about 10 degree windy weather, it was torture riding back. no car ftl
