I've taken a knack to pop songs about female violence towards men. Could be I've just developed a taste for it over the years after being in an abuse relationship or whatnot, or just that it's hilarious to listen to.

But would you call songs like Breaking Dishes by Rihanna feminist?

Domestic violence is no laughing matter.

Unless you're married to a clown.

It's still sexism if you're bashing men! I HATE this shit. I still want to stab Carrie Underwood in the throat for that crap about beating up the guy's car. It's a very frightening trend that needs to stop. If you really want equality, you should be building everybody up, not tearing your PERCEIVED opponents down.

Then again if a guy cheats on ya... not making an argument for her POV in the song or anything but I know how it feels when you've got a cheater on your hands.

I'm just talking about the type of demonizing a male where the guy hasn't done anything wrong, it's just a matter of tearing him down for fun.

^^^ that song is about a dude who cheats, not about any guy or every guy

I'm not advocating any badmouthing by either sex about the other, but a woman who's been slighted writing a song about popping a dude's tires isn't surprising... Just like men getting burned by ladies cheating on them or only wanting them for their money writing a song about them being bitches isn't surprising either.

Rihanna's song is like that too: she thinks he's out cheating, and she's fucking pissed. Sure we have no idea whether he is or not, but when one of the most common topics for any song is "jilted lover," it's not that misandrous.

[Edited on August 22, 2008 at 12:08 AM. Reason : ^ or rap, but that's misogynistic rather than misandrous]

I'm not too sure what defines pop anyway - I have lived under a rock for decades apparently so I couldn't know the difference. >.<

well the decline of radio and rise of the internet lets people branch out into many genres that have become way more popular than they could've been 10-20 years ago. so what popular isn't exactly the same thing as pop.

I always thought "pop" and popular were two different things.

So what's pushing the barrier here?

there is a 0% chance Carrie Underwood wrote any meaningful portion of that song.
