get the Valentine 1. it will pay for itself many times over.then just understand that if you speed enough, you will get some tickets anyway. just look at it as the fast driving tax.

As a person that speeds all the time and has been pulled over 9 times over 12 years I've got to say, dumb move. You've got to be cautious at least A FEW days after getting pulled. And roughly 20 over both times? Jesus man, WTF do you expect to happen?
8/24/2008 10:37:39 PM
8/24/2008 10:42:36 PM
Actually I think I'm up to 10, forgot about one time last year. But don't forget I live in NYC. Not a lot of driving going on, and when I am there are always other maniacs and other speeders to get instead of me. Plus, I drive pretty smart these days.
8/24/2008 11:03:10 PM
yeah, i figure that you haven't gotten pulled much if any since moving to NY a few years ago, but i figured you would've tallied up more than that before you started living there.
8/24/2008 11:05:00 PM
FUCKINGDUMBASS

I know you think your car is your fighter jet or some shit and that you're Mister Bad Ass and "can handle it"Yeah dude, you won't crash. No worries, right? You got it under control(you probably thought something like this before you knocked up your ex)
8/24/2008 11:18:38 PM
8/24/2008 11:20:28 PM
^^ at the moment, i only have a pickup truck. i've only been pulled over once in it, because i don't speed that much in it...usually 10-over or less.but anyway, if you've never spent significant time behind the wheel of cars as capable as a few of the ones i've owned, you frankly have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. you can certainly be a dumbass, no matter how capable of a car you're in...but in the right car, with the right driver, in the right place, in the right conditions, it is very often totally safe to drive far in excess of the posted speed limit.
8/24/2008 11:29:11 PM
In my opinion I've never (well, since HS at least) sped to the point where I feel that its wreckless and endangering others. But over the past year with the price of gas skyrocketing I've realized that for the most part speeding around town (esp. with a lot of traffic lights) is pointless and just wastes gas. So I mostly contain my speeding to Hwys and interstates.
8/24/2008 11:29:25 PM
yeah, i do 10-over or so on highways in my truck. around town, i speed even less than that, just because it's a cumbersome beast that doesn't turn or stop well.in a sports car, though, i don't give a shit how much i have to pay extra in gas. i've driven through a couple of tanks of fuel like an absolute grandma in all of my sports cars (except maybe the turbo miata) just to see what the difference was. in all cases, the difference between driving it like a little old lady and driving it however i wanted was pretty minimal in terms of cost.if i gave a shit about $5-10 per week in fuel expenses, i wouldn't have bought a sports car to begin with. i buy sports cars to enjoy them, knowing fully well that they will cost me more money to operate in terms of gas, oil, tires, speeding tickets, repairs, etc. Gotta pay to play--it's just part of the cost of the hobby.[Edited on August 24, 2008 at 11:36 PM. I speed less now that I'm trying to actively conserve gas.I'll still see a cop and be like "Oh shit! A cop." But then I'm like "Oh snap, I'm legal!"By the way, I was rolling with a HP officer a couple of months ago and I asked him if he goes "Oh shit! A cop" when he sees a cop. He just laughed.

^well shit I spent over an hour going 90-95mph on I-95 in southern SC the other day. If you're driving smart of course you can get away with it. But the more often you do it the more likely you'll get caught, there's no beating that logic. Not stopping for a redlight regardless of the time of night is pretty retarded. Coming to a complete stop and then going, however is perfectly legal depending on the circumstances.
8/25/2008 1:25:02 AM
So many badass speeders on here...since when was it cool to brag about how fast you were going? Also since when was driving a sports car a hobby?
8/25/2008 1:31:56 AM
yep, I've been driving like this all my life, and my last ticket before these is 4 years ago. I guess it caught up with me this weekend.
8/25/2008 1:32:58 AM
How far apart are your court dates? You might get lucky somehow?
8/25/2008 1:44:33 AM
exactly.driving a sports car has been a hobby since roughly the advent of the sports car.shit, actually, since before that. people have been racing cars since the advent of the 2nd car.
8/25/2008 6:29:15 AM
8/25/2008 7:38:13 AM
i regularly do 20-25 over on my way to classbut thats because everyone else is toohell, downtown, the speed limit is 45 and there are people that go 80

8/25/2008 8:30:19 AM
^ probably the best you're gonna do unless they have a driving school thingy to reduce one to improper equipment...
8/25/2008 8:33:56 AM
8/25/2008 1:44:04 PM
a v1 can't fix stupid. And 2 tickets in 1 weekend = stupid
8/25/2008 1:45:48 PM
8/25/2008 1:46:40 PM
^ that'll work if you get both of those things granted, which you probably will. if you get another ticket within 3 years, it will suck for you big time. i pretty much know that i'll always get another ticket within 3 years, so that approach is a waste of time.if james crouch thinks he can get at least one dropped to a non-moving violation, that's what i'd do. if it's outside of wake county, improper eq. might be a good option. last i heard, wake county won't do that for you, though (although with some infractions, the offense can be written up as either a moving violation OR a city code violation--i got a ticket once for turning right on red from Dan Allen to Hillsborough St. James Crouch got it dropped to a city code violation for me--i.e., an expensive parking ticket.)^^ maybe. could easily just be really unlucky, though. i don't know enough about the circumstances to make that call. a V1 is HUGE bang for the buck in combatting traffic ticketing, but it certainly isn't a magic bullet. you have to use some brains in its employment, and even then, occasionally you'll just be unlucky.[Edited on August 25, 2008 at 2:02 PM. 8/25/2008 2:00:01 PM
Yeah once my insurance goes back to normal i'll never cry about a speeding ticket again.
8/25/2008 2:02:02 PM
Are the Valentine radars really that good?
8/25/2008 2:04:09 PM
they're the best available, in my opinion (and that of almost everyone else). they false a little more than some of the competition, but they give you the most information by far and leave it up to your judgement to sort it out.they don't replace keeping a helluva good lookout visually and using common sense, but they're a great tool in your bag.also, if you DO get pulled, you know whether or not you got RADAR'd or not, which is valuable information in terms of how you deal with the situation.
8/25/2008 2:06:44 PM
*UPDATE* talked with the DA, and was able to reduced 1 ticket to "improper equipment" and the other one to "69 in 55". How much insurance hike should I be expecting?
9/3/2008 5:50:17 PM
They need to throw your ass in jail. Shit man, I got kids running around on these streets.
9/3/2008 6:39:13 PM
