Starts Tonight at 5 and will be on every night until things wrap up at the end of Thursday night. Will you be watching? There are going to be big names speaking like Bill Clinton and several others, but here are the headline speakers for each night.

Monday's headline prime-time speaker will be Michelle Obama.

Senator Hillary Clinton will be the headline prime-time speaker and former Virginia Governor Mark Warner will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday night. Pay Equity pioneer Lilly Ledbetter will also address the Convention on Tuesday.

The headline prime-time speaker on Wednesday will be Vice Presidential Nominee Senator Joe Biden.

Thursday is Barack Obama’s acceptance speech.

Howard Dean just called it into order. Ted Kennedy is making a surprise appearance tonight as well.

Quote :
"Kennedy prepares for dramatic appearance
Sen. Edward Kennedy will appear tonight at the Democratic National Convention against the advice of associates worried about his health, a Democratic source close to the Kennedy family said. Kennedy's appearance marks only his second time in the spotlight since brain surgery in June."

It goes until 9, it'll be closer to the end that tonight's main speaker Michelle Obama is slated for closer to the end when things start to pick up.

How could saying the DNC chair called things to order, and a prominent longstanding member of the party who recently nearly died will be making a surprise appearance misunderstood as a jab at the party? Unless its in the same way that hearing the Bush or Cheney names is considered a negative for republicans?

Pelosi will speak tonight too.

yeah...Dean not as much because the "BEE-YAAAAA" was just genuine excitement...but Ted Kennedy is basically the drunk murderer that still gets elected, so yeah you basically answered your first question with the 2nd part

^oh yeah, NBC is sunday night, ESPN is monday night

Michelle Obama has some big-ass hands. I wonder if she is related to Arsenio Hall.

Having Ted Kennedy get out there continues a tradition of the DNC parading cripples, AIDS and cancer victims out for the sympathy vote. Christopher Reeve, Elizabeth Fraser and Ron Kovic have been some other notable examples.

With nominations decided well before conventions, having surprise guests that could kill-over, a few protests like the RECREATE 68, the unknown element of how Clinton supporters are going to act, in addition to good speakers like Obama should atleast keep things interesting.

ahaha. Free the Jenna 6 on that guy's shirt. That should pretty much revoke his right to vote. Anyone who thinks you should free people who almost beat a guy to death should not be allowed to vote. I'm beginning to understand why the framers said that only educated land owners should be able to vote.

^^^ Ah, those are my comrades, there.

I need to find me some anarchists here in Albuquerque.

Quote :
"Later in the day was a more loosely organized "Reclaim the Streets" protest (shown here) which basically entailed anarchists confronting the police for the sake of confronting the police."

It actually ends at 11. I misunderstood earlier when I said it ends at 9, thats just that section of convention schedule. Sometime between 9 and 11 is when Michelle Obama will be speaking.

Some of tomorrows speakers include:

Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts; Governor Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas; Governor Ted Strickland of Ohio; Governor Janet Napolitano of Arizona; Governor Ted Strickland of Ohio

And other governors and senators will be speaking as well, but with each passing day they start pulling out better cards.

CNN's front page story is:

"House speaker rips McCain at convention"

Between this and Biden's attack dog type speech from Saturday, it looks like the gloves are coming off.

I think all sides in the media are trying to analyze every little tid bit of everything, Michelle Obama's speech included. It's really silly, all this punditry makes me want to scream on TV.
Why not just say, sure - it was a good speech. It was...she delievered it well.

Reading any more into it moving mountains or not being effective enough is silly...it was just a wonderfully written and executed speech and thats what she was supposed to do. You can tell she's been campaigning..

well, there is a large faction of America who think she is a Blank Panther-like radical, so that speech, plus the two little girls, was really good at portraying her as just a regular woman

I didn't hear her speech last night, had to get in bed because I work so early (about to step out the door and drive there now), but after listening to it now I thought it was pretty good, especially the last few minutes of it.

Most ignored speech

Quote :
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tried to rouse Democrats with that old oratorical favorite, a recurring line - 'Barack Obama is right, and John McCain is wrong' - after she recited a litany of issues. But many delegates were not paying attention, and the speech fell flat."

It's true. I saw this and it was embarrassing. When are the Democrats going to shitcan Pelosi already?

Carville: This Convention Has No Message

Quote :
"'James Carville seems the least satisfied Democrat in here right now,' noted CNN's Anderson Cooper. 'What's going on James?'

'Well if this party has a message it has done a hell of a job of hiding it tonight I promise you that,' Carville said."

Pelosi's speech was terrible. Awful in fact...but it remains to be seen how it stacks up with Rudy 9-11. Chances are good.

However, your selected sources about how the rest of the speeches went is really cute. Now you quote the cueball? Hahahahahahah. You can't get a more loaded perspective particularly right now from him. Can't believe you actually are trying to sell that as some unbiased expert take on the night. Hooksaw, you are a moron.

Quote :
"The New York Times: “Senator Edward M. Kennedy, struggling with brain cancer, arrived on Monday night at the Democratic National Convention in a triumphant appearance that evoked 50 years of party history as Democrats gathered to nominate Senator Barack Obama for president....it set the stage for the second part of what was designed to be an emotionally powerful two-act evening: an appearance later by Michelle Obama, who began a weeklong effort to present her husband - and his entire family - as embodiments of the American dream.”

The Washington Post: After an emotional speech by an ailing Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the face of the Democratic Party shifted on Monday night to a new generation of leaders, as Michelle Obama opened the Democratic National Convention with a tribute to her husband and a call to the country to listen ‘to our hopes instead of our fears,’ and ‘to stop doubting and to start dreaming.’”

USA Today has more on Michelle’s speech: “Michelle Obama, whose husband calls her ‘the star’ of their family, introduced herself Monday to the Democratic convention in a heartfelt speech invoking the dreams of her father and the hopes of her husband for the nation. ‘Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do,’ Obama said. ‘You treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them.”

The Los Angeles Times' Z. Barabak: "For all of the upbeat talk, tensions continued to stir between supporters of the Illinois senator and Hillary Rodham Clinton, threatening the unity that Democrats desperately seek as they face a rugged fight against Republican John McCain. None of that friction was visible, however, during the official program beamed worldwide from the star-spangled inside of Denver's Pepsi Center sports arena. The agenda was clear and two-pronged: Build an image of Obama as an everyman and start ripping McCain apart."

Ted Kennedy and Michelle Obama are six columns wide on the Boston Globe's cover. Headline: "Democrats share their dreams."

The Globe's Canellos: “But Kennedy's speech was much more than a moving acknowledgment of the tribute being paid to him - it was much more than anyone could have expected. It was, in fact, the party's real keynote address - a call to arms that brought together past and present, and set the agenda for all the speeches to follow… He also - and perhaps most importantly - bequeathed the 'dream' of charismatic liberalism that was embodied by President Kennedy to Barack Obama; with the martyred president's daughter at his side, he made it clear that Obama, more than any member of the Kennedy family, would be the future custodian of the Camelot legacy."

Kennedy is also the cover of the NY Post: "Old Lion Roars."

Michelle and a mic-carrying Sasha Obama are on the cover of the NY Daily News: "Love You Dad." Subhead: "Michelle and kids wow 'em on night of high drama at convention." "
