I'm doing an impromptu portrait shoot in about an hour for a magazine ad and am caught unprepared. I shoot Nikon and I need a ring flash, or at least a remote or speed flash with diffusers and tints. I'd also like to find a sturdier tripod than the one I have, perhaps some better quality lenses, and maybe even some reflectors and softboxes.

I can work with what I have, but I'd love to have some better lighting. I'm fully prepared to offer collateral for borrowing your equipment, as I know how attached we are to our (expensive!) equipment.

Anything you could offer me in the Raleigh inner-beltline area would be MUCH appreciated, PM me if you can help me out!

part of me feels sad, part of me just laughed at you...

However, there's a tripod & speedlight in Fayette'nam if you want it

I'd love to get my hands on a ring flash myself... they're awesome for macro work.

Yeah, weird scenario, won't get into details right now. I know it's a long shot, but anything at all better than MacGyvering a lighting setup with my floor lamps, wax paper, dry-erase markers and white sheets would be preferable

Hell if I need to I'll bring my PC monitor and some cardboard to make my own ring light

No it's more like I just found out a deadline was sooner than I expected and the subject in question will only be in town today and tomorrow...and tomorrow I've got a show and won't be able to do any real shooting. There's always that chance, so this request might still stand late tomorrow night, but I'd like to get it done tonight so I can spend tomorrow editing/retouching

anyway, I'm gonna go get stuff ready, PM me your phone number if you can help out! Thanks to everyone who would like to but can't tonight

If you aren't getting paid for it, just send it straight out of the camera. Not many free gigs are worth dying over.

I'm going to shoot raw to send to them, but whatever they use will be published with my name on it...so I want to make it as good as possible to help out the portfolio

shoot raw, but just export them as a jpeg or tiff if needed. Unless it's a photography magazine that really cares about color, just send jpeg.

it's for a company that will publish ads in several magazines, some of which may be more strict than others...so they might as well have the raw

I'll send them the original .raw files as well as my touched-up .jpg files, for shits'n'giggles

send in TIFF, that's how most ad agencies or design work is done, if not in psd's or pdf's. DNG's is a good idea, but again, most people would be like "wtf".

Not all computers have CS3 or some sort of RAW editor so sending them in TIFF allows them to see it on most machines.
