Srsly! It has some yellowish-brown oil stain on it so it's hard to read. Do I wipe it down with a gasoline soaked rag? Acetone? I think that would clean it, but I don't want to contaminate anything.

are you that paranoid about your engine? it wont contaminate anything, youre only putting like a drop of whatever to 4-5 quarts of oil. i'd recommend any organic solvent. the main ingredient in seafoam engine treatment that cleans carbon deposits is actually naphtha(charcoal lighter fluid). try some of that. wipe it off the dipstick.

If you're worried about the tad of cleaner left on it, give it a thorough cleaning by starting with a clean rag that you put a dozen drops of oil on- It'll be fine.

just spray it clean, wipe it, and let it air dry for a few seconds. shit evaporates quick as hell.
