Hello Hanna!

The traditional season-opening downpour returns this year after a brief hiatus.

game isn't til 6pm, from that map we'd catch the tail end of it, probably a soggy field on a humid day

It has basically stalled at this point, so I wouldn't put too much stock in the timing of the projected track at this point. If it stays on its current forecast it could possibly mess with tailgating but move out for game time. If it delays just a few hours we could have another game in a tropical storm.

Nice. Maybe W&M will fumble in their endzone so we can put some points on the board.

how many injuries will the wet field leave us with?

I am guessing we lose 3 more players.

Seems like it happened every year in the Rivers era as well.

Arkansas State was insane (last year with the hill), poured the whole game
New Mexico had thunderstorms right before kickoff that soaked everyone and delayed the game
Another opener drowned my cell phone--Indiana maybe?

Yeah, I'm trying to stay optimistic, but it's not looking good. I really really hope that we get lucky and have a nice day.

if there's anything North Carolinians should know by now, it should be that you can't predict a hurricane.

'99 against South Carolina..

That storm delayed the UNM game...and the Ark State game wasn't THAT bad...

Sure hurricanes/TSs are unpredictable, but based on these computer models it looks like a slam dunk.

it was East Tennessee State in either '02 or '03, where either golden or reid returned the opening kickoff for TD in the downpour.

From the latest charts on the NHC website this is probably just going to be a rain event with a stiff (ok, very stiff) breeze.

We only have a 10-20% chance of even seeing sustained winds of 50 knots (58mph).

even if they moved this game to thursday or friday nights, it would have trouble competing with local high school games. i am very worried about the crowd on sat. night. thank you daniel evans.

Moving game time I can deal with, but I'm not sure how that will help given its current track and the game being at 6 PM already--maybe a day game wouldn't require as much generator capacity if the power is out? If they move the game day they need to refund tickets for those of us coming from out of state.

Van Denton posted this on packpride:
Quote :
"The track has been shifted to the east this morning. As of 11am, it is forecast to have a landfall near Myrtle Beach, Sat. morning....a little after 8 am. The the storm begins turning NNE and by game time would be near Tidewater Viginia. We may still have showers....but most would be ending by that time. May have problems for folks going to the race in Richmond with this track.

On this track....Raleigh could get 2-3 inches of rain with heaviest rain over Eastern NC...where 3-6 could fall. Again this should be a fast moving storm once it makes landfall. Slow the next couple days then begin to move faster Saturday-Sunday. By Sunday morning it should already be in southern New England.

Winds: On the 11am Wed track......Raleigh 20-30 mph.....Rocky Mt.....30-40 mph......New Bern.....40-50...... Greenville ~40..........Morehead City....50-60.....Wilmington....60-70.........Myrtle Beach......70-80.

In my experience most storms keep getting adjusted to the right when dealing with our coast. If it shifts farther east.....Myrtle gets less wind and Wilm and Morehead get a little more.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/143315.shtml?5day?large#contents

Don't be surprised if the track gets adjusted again.

NHC giving a faster motion now. It's speed has been increasing from previous model runs, to the point where instead of a landfall around Saturday AM, probably 3-4a Saturday morning. This might be out of here by kickoff, if it keeps up this speed.

My estimate right now is landfall at Oak Island (SW of Wilmington)
