If they were real flags it might be noteworthy, but I'm sure many more fake flags, mini flags, and stars & stripes souvenirs get tossed all across America every July 5th.
If anything this should highlight the fact that the Democratic Party was so pro-America that they had over ten thousand American Flags at their convention. Has the RNC even made public the number of flags they had?!?!? 9/6/2008 2:10:11 PM |

they probably say "made in china" on them as well. i'm fairly certain that not one single flag was thrown out at the RNC.

on CNN they said the democrats were bagging these up to send them to other events.
Does that mean McCain stole 12,000 American flags? 9/6/2008 2:32:35 PM |

It does if true, but i'm not convinced by a Fox News blog that it is actually a true story, or at least not as they have portrayed it.9/6/2008 5:22:50 PM |

It's not true, it's more fabricated bullshit. How they can get away with this is beyond me. They pulled the smear.
Quote : | "According to a article just out from Huffington Post, the story about flags from the Democratic National Convention being thrown away is simply false. The story was jumped on and apparently authored by the McCain campaign. But the real tell is down in the Huffpo piece where it traces the story to none other than Fox News' Carl Cameron.
After I placed a series of calls to Fox News inquiring about the story, the story was eventually pulled, and Fox was forced to issue an apology and retract the fabricated story. Fox spokesman Paul Schur told TPM:
"Carl [Cameron] made a stupid mistake which he regrets. And he has been reprimanded for his lapse in judgment. It was a poor attempt at humor."" |

yeah. not buying that it's fabricated, especially not on the word of the huffington post.

Wonder how they figured that out. Oh, that's right, it says so at the bottom of the article. wow, what great investigative skills huffpo has!

^^ Carl Cameron has a history of scum-baggery.
The story is a little fishy though...
So the Dems had a convention, left the flags behind, someone bags up 12,000 flags for garbage, a vendor sees the bags, then calls the Boy Scouts who "sort" all 12,000 of them, and then someone calls in some "veterans" who then distribute the 12,000 flags at the republican rally?
I'm guessing, at worst, the flags were given to or sold to the production company, who then used them at the next rally.
The worst part of this is that the already confused elections is being further cluttered with the democrats having the brag about the number of flags the used (which they claim is over 100k) and the republicans saying the dems don't love the flag enough. It's pretty ridiculous.
Here is the original huffington post article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/06/thrown-away-flags-story-f_n_124499.html
The quoted section Kainen posted is flawed though, he quoted quotes from the previous Carl Cameron screw up. There is no report that THIS story has been pulled from Fox News yet. This is the source of Kainen's post: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/214283.php

the only given in this thread:
you can lay your life on the fact that not a single democrat will vocally come out nor physically in any way defend the flag or the nation. that you can bet on.

It reminds me of the Simpsons where Kodos and Kang ran for president, "very well, abortions for some, miniature American flags for others." Issues be damned, the treatment of 12k, probably Chinese-made, American flags is more important that 8 years of both an administration and a congress who have largely ignored what they're supposed to stand for.9/7/2008 4:22:18 AM |
