But at least the end will sound like pink floyd, and we'll also know what it will look like, via this simulation, right before our corneas melt.

any geologists here that can verify that "evidence of having happened 6x" bit?that thing did not look like 500km.. more like 500 miles (looking at 0:54 relative sizes and guessing)500 miles = from Raleigh to NYC, albeit not as the crow flies500 km = from Raleigh to BaltimoreAnyways, I figure something that big would rock earth out of its normal orbit
9/8/2008 10:39:09 AM
at leasts 6 times beforea 500 km meteor? so if we take the earth to be 4.5 billion years old the odds at best are 1.3*10^-9 per year of this happening i can live with those odds
9/8/2008 10:39:33 AM
That was pretty neat.
9/8/2008 10:42:49 AM
at leasts 6 times before 'eh
9/8/2008 10:44:41 AM

i liked itvery coolscary as hell

i don't know about the earth being hit by asteroids 500 km across that many times in the past... the one that helped kill the dinosaurs nowhere near that large.while the earth was still forming there were many impacts on that scale, but i don't know of any of that magnitude over the past 4 billion years.
9/8/2008 10:55:26 AM
i mean ceres (the largest asteroid in the asteroid belt) is not even 500km in diameter. is not that much larger than 500 km in diameter. (~900km)[Edited on September 8, 2008 at 11:05 AM. Reason : correction]
9/8/2008 10:59:08 AM
So is that shit actually supposed to hit in 2012 or what?
9/8/2008 11:01:30 AM
Saw the video a while back, but it didn't have the music, just an explanation of what was going on by some japanese chick. And If this is referring to the one that has like a 1 in 500 chance of hitting us in 203X, that one is like .001 of the size of this one from the video. It would likely only cause regional destruction or a massive tsunami. That one in the video is bigger than some moons.
9/8/2008 11:08:00 AM
don't we have more immediate things to be terrified about?
9/8/2008 11:21:14 AM
^ no
9/8/2008 11:22:10 AM
not even terrorism?or bird flu?
9/8/2008 11:29:52 AM
yea, all that political shit tends to not matter when there's a big fucking rock crashing into the planet.
9/8/2008 11:31:07 AM
