is really unnecessary.
Just say something like the economy is barely (if at all) functional, or reverted to a barter system.

Inflation was so bad, people had to be paid several times a day. Immediately after being paid, they would race with their money to buy material goods as soon as possible. If they delayed at all, their money would be worthless by the time they tried to purchase something with it. 9/10/2008 2:49:16 PM |

i heard on NPR or some radio station early in August that they were knocking like 10 zeros off the end and trading out the currency.
and that last time they did that, they took a quarter of the live money out of value after they changed it.

^^ive talked to people that have lived in areas recently (argentina and israel) that had inflation problems and they said that nothing has prices at the stores. everything has a code that the cashier types into a computer that calculates the value of the product at the exact second you are buying it.
crazy. 9/10/2008 4:10:46 PM |

Was just in Munich...and took a tour that gave a lot of information.
It was something like 4.2 trillion german marcs for every US Dollar.
The bags they people would carry money to the store was worth more than the money in the bags (people would get their bags and baskets stolen before the money). They started printing only on one side of the bills because it costs more money to make the bills then what they were actually worth. And they also used the money for stuff like wallpaper (again, because it was blank on one side...this would actually work).
I had no idea it was that bad. Hitler was arrested for treason in 1923 and should have gotten the death penalty...as was the law back then. But because they were so desperate for something different, they let him slide. Crazy shit. 9/10/2008 5:34:52 PM |
