If you dont care about being shipped out in a year, its a great program for someone with actual technical ability and people skillz...

I almost did it, but I wanted to get a better technical foundation under me, so I chose TAC. (and they hired me before I graduated, so that was an additional plus).

I'm fairly certain that you have to commit to working for x amount of time after the one year training period, or you have to reimburse the company if you leave before x is up.

Also, Ive been invited to interview for the ASE program. The group I interned with several years ago is a direct feeder in to that program. I went to work in the TAC instead, left, and now hope to get in as an ASE.

Honestly, Id rather go in to the aNCE program, but Ill take what I can get. Free training is free training.

I also remember the commit being 2 years in the ASE role, could be wrong though.

I did just that and I am extraordinarily surprised.

But that is something you will see at every big company...

Plenty of people out there who think they deserve promotion and due to conflicting opinions with their boss, they settle to believe that management is unqualified or incompetent... sure there are incompetent people ... but I think that most reasonable people can be "good", not great, middle managers.

I had the phone interview yesterday. I think it went well but Im ALWAYS nervous over phone interviews. I do better in person where I can read body language and identify better.

finished the program last year. there's a couple other former ase's on here that might also want to post. best year of my life. you work hard, but you make lots of great friends, and i know many of these are lifelong. good amount of parties and going out, office romance for sure, was really transformational for many who went through it (you learn a lot). you will learn basic sales skills, how to give presentations, and of course the technical side. i ended up in a position where i have only one customer (a service provider), and i'm basically serving as a technical point of contact and lab assistant for the first couple years with some presentations thrown in and trips to restaurants. some of the other ase's ended up in positions with multiple customers with shorter-term sales (working on an SP account, my sales are long-term). basically, i get paid very well for being technical but having basic social skills (you might be expected to wine and dine occasionally if not often). it's the perfect combo for me, because i like to have a good time and not be purely technical. not to say you can't still go out as an nce (see: ance program), but those guys are more technical than us. the sales side of things is great if you can get past dealing with the inevitable egos and type A's, etc. you get paid more and have more fun in many cases (no offense Bobby :p). i still ask myself almost every day how i got so lucky to be where i am. still in the honeymoon, but any way i look at it, i have a dream job. good luck on those phone interviews, and the assessments if you make it. keep us updated.

the above mentioned jmwpaco is the man and very well liked in the program, and would also be able to provide some great insight.

So who has some info on how the WCS system works and how the Location Appliance ingtegrates in to it.

Im fighting an uphill battle at work... like 1200 + AP's and Location Appliances that have been sitting around for 4 years.

I am not familiar with the underlying frame work that would answer most of my questions.

Uh well they didnt say anything, just congratulated me for making it. Actually it is quite short notice.

I got an email yesterday asking for available times this thursday and friday, however this is with an internal employee not a contractor. Your initial phone interview was with a contractor, hence the "-X" in the name field of the email. Thats the IT naming scheme given to contracted employees.

Anywho... it wasnt specified if this interview was in person or a second phone interview. Im still waiting to hear the answer to that question.

I handled this phone interview much better and I really hit big on answers to a lot of the interviewers questions. First time Ive felt really comfortable on a phone interview.

Though, I did elaborate a bit too much and took 45 mins for a 30 min time slot. The interviewer (an SE/ASE manager IIRC) gave me some advice for interview day in regard to length and how thorough my answers should be in relation to what I gave today. The interviewer commended me on how much I have thought through my career aspirations and understanding of how Cisco works, the ASE role, and how it contributes to the organizations success. I suppose I just had a well rounded understanding of everything the interviewer was looking for...

In light of it the interviewer told me that I would be spared the suspense and that I was being moved to the second round.

As a general rule, all Cisco customer focus engineers are at the very least presentable.

No dev_test lab rats in that crowd.

ASR is a different league all together.
