Anyone work in a retail setting that sells individually packaged beverages, such as energy drinks, soda, bottled water, etc?

Im trying to find the average markup on this type of item. Is there a standard across product lines or does it vary greatly by specific product?

Do your suppliers mandate minimum pricing, or do they require that you stick to MSRP?

*My boss just asked me to do an analysis for the sales of beverages at our location, but gave no specifics as to what info they were looking for...mostly because they dont know what they should be looking for *

Happy Friday btw!

I like how a 20oz is 1.49 at most stores and a 2 liter is .99.

That is some damn expensive refrigeration.

^Yea I love that.

I also love going to the grocery store and buying grape juice next to the orange juice in the frig makes the exact same bottle more expensive than the same grape juice on the juice aisle that is unrefrigerated.

^^ you're paying for the plastic more so than the refrigeration.

what important ingredient in plastic has more than tripled in price over the last few years?

well just take SAMS as an example.

of course, the more you buy, the cheaper it is.

i dont have exact figures from the "plant" price,

but we used to goto sams and stock up on drinks/snacks and put them in the vending machines. you'll still make money.

You should be able to get this information by contacting some of the local distributors.

nah, I don't think it's the plastic price changing as much as it is demand and inflation

other plastic resins have risen faster than PET has, anyhow

it's actually cheaper to buy drinks from sam's than to buy them from pepsi

wow. didnt know that.

but i guess it makes sense. restaurants have to buy liquor from a distributor, they cant goto ABC store, which is also much cheaper than whoever they are suppose to buy it from.

and its hefty fines if they get caught getting their liquor from ABC store and using it.

perhaps its similar with other beverages.

I know the place I used to work, we charged whatever we damn well pleased for drinks. It usually was upmarked about double what we paid for it.

I work in a movie theater, so our typical beverage markup is ten to twenty mojillion percent.

I do not think the price of a 20oz bottle went up $0.50

I mean you can still get a case of bottled water for 3.50
