Also if anyone has any opinions on whether I should get the E8500 or the Q6600, post please.

now that's good product placement.

i'd say go Q6600 if you do a TON of multitasking, video editing, graphics, or anything else multi-threaded.

i'd say go E8500 if you want to game or overclock, it's smaller manufacturing process allows it to run faster at stock speeds, cooler, and consume less energy, the higher multiplier allows it to overclock extremely well.

either choice is a good choice.

i'm, ummmm.... not sure Apple really has a call on exactly which pages their ads are displayed on. i.e. Apple sells their ads through a service that About.com happens to subscribe to, and when some kind of keyword matching algorithm shows they are displaying an article about computers, Apple ads might come up

Nope, the PC vs Mac ads run like this too on Yahoo! Mail.

With the mac guy running around the top and PC to the side.

I think those mac v PC commercials are incredibly appropriate. PC looks like a business man hes practical, hes got a security officer, he doesn't make jokes he just gets the job done. Mac is cooler looking on the surface, but hes really just a pretentious little douche, he's one of those art students who acts like they're better than people who are going for real jobs because hes "not giving up on his dream" even though at best he'll end up designing the boxes for action figures.

hey, great - thanks for the analysis.
I doubt anyone has ever made that observation in the 3 years those ads have been running!

Not sure if you disproved anything in agentlion's post there...

So.... Apple also buys ad space with Yahoo! Mail. Okay, is that subtle also?

Or are you saying that Apple has bought 2 ad spaces and requested that they be run together? In that case, way to go Apple, you've just bought 2 ads when 1 probably could have done the trick.
But in either case, it's just a bot that decides when to display the ads.

no, apple has actually designed several ads which span multiple ad-boxes, requiring the boxes being placed at certain proximity to each other. Then the figures in the two boxes interact with each other. they're quite effective, actually.

Yea, I know. They buy 2 in a package deal and it's real cute.

But I'm pretty pessimistic about advertising anyway. Does the mere fact that they bought 2 ads and made them cute somehow sell more computers than a single ad on that page would have?
I suppose that's what some advertising and market research guys get paid to figure out, but I'm stubborn in my own feelings on the issue.

no, but it does get people talking about it (well, in apple's case, steve jobs goes to the bathroom and people talk about it....) and it certainly grabs your attention more than a normal banner ad.
and i don't see many other companies having people making youtube videos out of their advertisements (except for microsoft and their ridiculous Seinfeld ads)

Apple is still in the process of building a brand, and part of building a brand is getting eyeballs to pay attention to you, regardless if they buy a computer from you yet.

the only bad advertising is the advertising you don't remember
