I like to use a tablespoon of smart balance when making the rice, then put two servings of rice in a bowl, crust it with sea salt, then I drizzle duck sauce on it. It keeps the rice buttery, lets you get a little kick of flavor when you break the "crust" at the top (sweet and salty) then you kind of work your way down through the "bland" until you break the "crust" again. It makes rice highly delicious without causing you to over-season it. 9/15/2008 11:09:51 PM |

Yeah those are good, I always had onions and jalapeƱos when I was in school, those and texas pete are the cheapest way to add flavor to food.
Also, worcestershire sauce is good stuff.
Or put some shrimp in it, with chili powder

Here are things you can add. Not all at once, of course. Pick from each category and mix in. Make themes, such as Italian, Indian, Mexican, etc. Or, herby, root vegetably, cheesy, sweet, savoury, etc. I could suggest some great combos, but I am too lazy. Use your imagination and food logic! Also, some of the things could/should be added at the beginning, some in the middle, some towards the end. Some would need to be cooked separately and mixed in. Again, use your food sense! Oh, and I hope you are using brown rice. Or red rice. Or wild rice. Not white rice.

You should try rice porridge. It's the only real way to eat rice with junk added.
You'll need: -some jasmine rice -chicken broth & a shitton of water (or just a shitton of broth) -roasted garlic -chicken -green onions -bean sprouts -corriander -sugar -black pepper -soy sauce -and sriracha ( !)
Boil the chicken in the broth/water, remove when done. Rinse the rice and boil it in the broth/water. Add the roasted garlic and a lil sugar. Cook it til it's complete mush, then add the green onion. Scoop it into a bowl and top it with shredded chicken, more green onion, corriander, a dab of soy sauce, bean sprouts, and some sriracha.
This is making me h0ngry.
I wish se7entythree was awake so she could upload a pic of my porridge from her puter.
^Fried rice is just junk they scrape up off the floor and throw into a wok for the white people. hehe. Seriously, fried rice is made in those countries, but it isn't common in home cooked meals. It's like corn dogs. Yeah, corn dogs are american, but americans typically don't make them for dinner. It's a staple in asian restaraunts cause americans like stuff in their rice (hence this thread).

I just remembered... When I was little and my mom would cook stuff I didn't like just because my dad wanted it. I'd get some rice and add some soy sauce and diced pickles or dry roasted peanuts.
Odd combination, but that shit tasted good when I was 8. 9/16/2008 2:00:35 AM |

Eh, I just went by wikipedia, they said it was popular.
White rice is just so boring, having a serving of plain white rice on my plate is the equivalent for me of having a piece of plain, crustless white bread on the plate. I'm like, "Wtf am I supposed to do with this? eat it like it is?"9/16/2008 2:13:41 AM |

Rice mixed with feta cheese, sliced olives and sliced italian sausage.
Mix well.
Then add the beans.
Mix well.

i like plain rice. i've never liked putting butter/gravy/anything on my rice except a little bit of salt. the only place i'll eat *fried* rice is at tokyo express (but it's not normal fried rice).
what Fumbler is not telling you is that while he does like plain rice, he eats mouthfuls of plain rice with a couple of pieces of meat thrown in at the same time.
