180 billion in capital into the world market + 80 billion loan to AIG + general American bullishness will delay the next huge drop until WaMu, Goldman Sachs, or another Wall Street bank goes under. 9/18/2008 11:05:32 AM |

WAMU is way better than Bank of America. I'd dance a jig of joy if they tanked.
Also, I'm investing in Mason jars, meaning that I'm burying any savings I have in the backyard at this point. 9/18/2008 11:14:08 AM |

So when you dig it up it'll be worth 1% of what it's worth now? If the economy is really going down the shitter, you actually want to buy as many useful goods as possible. Like guns. 9/18/2008 11:15:42 AM |

There are different kinds of bear investments.
If you had bought gold last week, you would have raked up. That's because there's still some net amount of money/value present in the world, and those hard commodities are a safe haven in a sense.
But there again, if you buy them through a broker, you're compounding your risk of the price of gold with the risk that your broker will not have fled the country and took all your money - or went bankrupt, got shot, etc. This is where glass jars come into play.
Then there's the peak oil, we're going to all die kind of investment. That would mostly be stockpiles of food, fuel, and a crap load of guns. For not much more than a few 10k you can buy enough stuff to support you for the rest of your life and barricade yourself in somewhere.
The traditional "we're all going to die" investment has been bomb shelters, but the trend has moved away from those lately.9/18/2008 12:17:07 PM |

If the world burned down tomorrow I'd be ok. I don't have any compunctions about killing people, and I know basic survival skills. Shit, I've got enough debt that if the world economy collapsed I'd be better off. 9/18/2008 6:04:37 PM |
