breast milk

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2976181/Swiss-restaurant-to-serve-meals-cooked-with-human-breast-milk.html

Quote :
"A Swiss gastronomist has stirred a controversy in the tranquil Alpine republic after announcing that he will serve meals cooked with human breast milk.

The owner of the Storchen restaurant in the exclusive Winterthur resort will improve his menu with local specialities such as meat stew and various soups and sauces containing at least 75 per cent of mother's milk.

"We have all been raised on it. Why should we not include it into our diet?" Hans Locher, who has become Switzerland most controversial restaurant owner, said.

Mr Locher attracted the attention of the leading media of the German-speaking world this week after he posted ads looking for women donors, who will receive just over three pounds for 14 ounces of their milk.

He said: "I first experimented with breast milk when my daughter was born.

"One can cook really delicious things with it. However, it always needs to be mixed with a bit of whipped cream, in order to keep the consistency."

The food control authority in Switzerland was initially confused by the apparent loophole in local legislation regulating the use of human milk and it was not clear whether Mr Locher could actually be banned from serving his specialities.

"Humans as producers of milk are simply not envisaged in the legislation.

"They are not on the list of approved species such as cows and sheep, but they are also not on the list of the banned species such as apes and primates," Rolf Etter of the Zurich food control laboratory said. "

Wait, aren't humans primates? I guess not by law.

And $6 for 14 ounces? That's shit.

I would be concerned. VERY CONCERNED.

Certain drugs pass through breast milk. Illnesses like CMV and HepB are also transmitted via breast milk.

14 ounces is a shitload of breast milk for ~ $5.00 he is paying. My wife has a double pumper and she could get like 3 oz's max in 10 minutes.

Seems like not a lot of money for that milk.

I find this article funny. We think of it as normal to consume milk from other species, but not our own. WEIRD

We're not talking about meat.

We're talking about the same milk that most of us (should be all of us) drank for months.

I don't think that it is strange to consume breast milk.
I think that it is strange to consume a stranger's breast milk.

Seriously, it has to be some kind of health violation. Or there has to be some kind of testing or screening of the breast milk donors. Many drugs and diseases can be passed along through breast milk. It isn't something that can just be unregulated. There are guidelines for breast milk donors just like blood donors.

i saw on taboo that the average age (world wide) that breastfeeding stops is 4. i was kind of shocked. but then i realized it makes sense.

and then ofcourse they showed the token 7 year old that still breastfeeds in australia.

OH and after that they showed the token 6 year old twins that still breastfeed. at the same time. i think this was also in australia.

i went to a very strange private religious school for a few years.

one of my teachers' kids went to the school, one being in my classes.

she told our class one day that she breastfed her children until they told her they didn't want to feed from her breasts anymore.

true story.

I am a huge advocate of extended breastfeeding. There is no reason to not do it.

However, serving food in a restaurant made with breast milk is weird.
