for your sauce, the nahunta pork center sells this seasoning stuff in a little bag. you buy it and a gallon of apple cider vinegar and pour out a little of the vinegar (enough so the package of seasoning will fit in the jug) and pour in the seasoning package. shake it up. it's pretty good. i think they might sell it at the nahunta pork center store at the farmer's market, but i'm not sure.
or you can buy scott's at food lion and bake up a pork shoulder in a browning bag in the oven. take it out and chop it up and put on the scott's. it's a decent alternative.

^ yeah that stuff is good.
Another way to ghettorig some BBQ is to throw a buttroast in a crock pot with some smoked salt and let that cook for a couple of hours, then throw that sauce on it. 9/21/2008 11:05:00 AM |

i you can't throw a chunk of pork in a crock pot, turn it on for a few hours, pull it out, chop it up, and put on some sauce, then you don't fucking deserve any bbq. not even shitty crock pot alternative. 9/21/2008 11:08:19 AM |

You can cheat and make a decent bbq in the crock pot. It's good, and pretty cheap, but bbq you can buy from most places will probbably be better.
Here's a recipie I just found, it's not the same one I usually use, but it looks like it would work.

Quote : | "Crockpot pulled pork recipe with vinegar and red pepper. Delicious North Carolina style pork recipe for the crockpot. Ingredients:
* 1 fresh pork shoulder * Ground red pepper * Crushed red pepper * 1 1/2 c. vinegar * Salt
Preparation: Rinse meat and pat dry. Liberally sprinkle meat with red pepper. Place meat in dry crock pot and cook 8 to 10 hours or until very tender. May be put under broiler for crusty top at this point. Bring crushed red pepper and vinegar to boil. Chop, shred, or slice meat and add mixture a spoonful at a time when taste is right, stop. Add salt to taste. Put back in crock pot and keep warm until ready to serve. Serve on bun with slaw, with beans" |
