It was like every single segment bombed - did they not rehearse? Cringed a few times. 9/22/2008 8:45:14 AM |

i skimmed through it, and didn't see anything good either, except Don Rickles making Kathy Griffin squirm like crazy when going off script. The opening was dreadful, and I couldn't tell if Heidi Klum was actually pissed about being there, or if she was just acting pissed or whatever.... either way, it didn't work at all. Also concerning Heidi Klum..... it's nice that the Justin Timberlake/Janet Jackson superbowl tradition of men tearing the clothes off of women on national TV is being continued.
I thought the sets were kind of ridiculous - they made gigantic sets to mimic TV shows, and used them for about 5 seconds each, just long enough for the actors to walk off the set to the mic. what a waste.
btw, WTF is up with "best direction for a variety/comedy/special show" going to the director of The Oscars? What kind of incestuous bullshit is that? I think Colbert should easily be up there for best directing.

i was expecting more from Steve Carell. I couldn't tell if he was playing a bit or if he really didn't have anything to contribute. Then when he pulled the emmy out from under his seat, it was obvious that he was playing the bit. In that case, it could have been written better 9/22/2008 11:42:44 AM |

I knew the Carell thing was a bit, especially since Colbert and Stewart were laughing and it looked like Carell was supposed to try and keep a straight face through the whole thing.
Props to him though, I couldn't have kept myself from breaking and smiling for that long. 9/22/2008 12:13:27 PM |
