Lets get it started with some good, potentially great news

Quote :
"The Charlotte Bobcats are extending an offer sheet to Houston Rockets big man Carl Landry, looking to address their lack of depth at power forward, an informed source told the Observer.

Restricted free agent Landry played extensive minutes for the Rockets in the second half of last season after Houston lost all-star center Yao Ming to injury.

This is the second time in the past year the Bobcats attempted to take a restricted free agent away from another team. They failed to get Cleveland big man Anderson Varejao last season.

However, the Bobcats seem to have more hope that the Rockets won't match their offer and keep Landry.

That's because the Rockets have a multitude of big men and are believed to be close to luxury-tax territory that could add considerably to their costs.

Details of the Bobcats' offer to Landry have not been revealed.

The Bobcats' greatest area of need entering next week's training camp in Wilmington appears to be power forward. Assuming new coach Larry Brown plans to start Emeka Okafor at center, the team's first option at power forward appears to be Sean May, who missed all of last season and much of his three-year NBA career with a knee injury."

would be nice

Thus far, we've been the Clippers of the East

both in on court performance and front office ineptness

But now that they're off of News 14 and on FSN

They can suck in HD now, so I'll continue to watch

and the scalping market just keeps getting better and better

Cool is FSN going to carry a large amount of the games?

the quality of the 14 broadcasts were sooo bad.

when the Bobcats got Skip "Skipper B on Sallie Saxon's whore client list" Beck and others to sign on as minority owners, they had a limit of $250,000 per partner per season for capital calls...Fred Whitfield told a friend of mine the other week that they have already asked each partner for $400,000 this year alone and the season hasn't even started...their sales are so horrible...I feel bad for the players (except Sean May) cause this franchise is fucked

There sales would be better if they would draft better!!!!

I mean Jerryd Bayless was on the board, a player who could propel a franchise, a monta ellis type player, but nope..... the bobcats passed on someone who could probably sell a few jerseys and sell a few tickets

The Bobcats weren't the only ones that passed on Bayless -- lots of teams did. I'm thinking there's more to his situation than we know about. And to say he's a franchise-changing pick is a bit extreme. He couldn't even save his college team from mediocrity.

well they cut McInnis last year (why they signed him in the first place is still baffling), May is too fat and hurt to ever play, and minority owner Michael Jordan doesn't care enough about them to show up at games, so the UNC thing isn't as bad as it was, although Larry Brown is the coach and Felton is the PG

They should make all unc team and lose 82 games.
Felton, McCants, Jamison, Lang, May for starting 5.

Look at their last 9 draft picks

Kyle Weaver
Alexis Ajinca
DJ Augustin
Jared Dudley
Brandon Wright
Ryan Hollins
Adam Morrison
Sean May
Raymond Felton

Look at these 9 players that they didnt get but COULD have

Al Thornton
Brandon Roy
Tyrus Thomas
Andrew Bynum
Monta Ellis
Danny Granger
Nate Robinson
Jason Maxiell
Jerryd Bayless

Give me the 2nd 9 any day of the week

AND I DIDNT EVEN MENTION THE FACT THAT............

they turned down an offer with the hawks where they could have traded their 2 picks (felton&may) for the 2nd pick and CHRIS PAUL

YOU HAVE TO BUILD YOUR TEAM THROUGH THE DRAFT

We needed to offer him a little more money. I bet 3 years $12 million gets him.

Everyone knows we've drafted horribly but you can't blame them for ALL the guys above.

Al Thornton is pretty bad.

Tyrus Thomas is alright but is a poor teammate on a team that has no chemistry.

Nate Robinson has been surprisingly alright but given his size and poor passing he's not the missing link or anything.

Jason Maxiell is good but I don't remember anyone clamoring for him. You can't predict every breakout player in advance.

Same thing for Monta Ellis. He was a 2nd round pick. We aren't the only team who missed the boat on him.

Likewise I don't remember much hype for Bynum even though he would have been a perfect addition for a team who has never been able to land an effective center. Who knows if he develops well though with our shitty coaches and losing rosters.

Danny Granger is really frustrating. Everyone in the NBA draft thread was clamoring for him, myself included. He's been a solid player in the league from Day One and would have been a much cheaper version of Jason Richardson. We could have thrown that cap room at a legitimate star and kept Brandan Wright instead of panicking for Richardson.

Brandon Roy is unreal. I don't care if he said he didn't wanna play in Charlotte. That was just fucking dumb to pass him up. Everyone knew he looked like the best player in the draft. The kicker is we passed him up for Adam Morrison who graded out as the worst player in the league his rookie season. Gee, a white stiff with no athleticism isn't good in the NBA. Never saw that coming.

Jerryd Bayless I thought would have been a good pick but he hasn't even played a game yet so I won't rip us yet on that one. I'm not a huge fan of the Augustin pick but I'd like to see what he can do first.

Taking Ray Felton and Sean May is really the move that killed this franchise though. If they had taken Deron Williams or Chris Paul (my obvious preference but jesus either way) we'd be a playoff team that could contend in the East.

EVERYONE thought taking Felton and May was a reach and a cheap attempt to sell tickets. I will never understand why they didn't think Chris Paul would sell tickets. He's a local guy, he's nasty, and he will make your team win. Felton and May are just local.

Did JR Reid sell tickets? Did Sidney Lowe sell tickets? No. Fucking Larry Johnson and Alonzo Mourninng sold tickets. Take guys who are good, not guys who played in the ACC.

i dont know if everyone thought felton was a reach. may certainly was. i remember i went bowling the night of that draft. i think i saw the felton pick, and i was okay with it. then as we're bowling, a friend calls me and told me they picked may. i was so angered i nearly had to quit bowling.

i'm not ready to give up on morrison. i dont think he'll ever be a star, but he could at least be a decent role player and not a complete bust. his first season, i think he was too fragile mentally to handle the expectations put on him. he got to kind of be forgotten about his 2nd year, which frankly i think will be good for him. we'll see how he handles a role off the bench in his 3rd year. according to some charlotte observer blogs, he's been focusing on driving and creating shots rather than just spot up shooting, and i think thats one of the things that threw him off the most in his first year. he was branded a shooter rather than a scorer.

I don't think Felton was a terrible pick at #5.

What most people were pissed about was passing up Chris Paul.

I mean come on everyone knew he was going to be good. They didn't know he'd be the best player in the league but he was a virtual lock to be a top notch PG within a few seasons.

The only concern on him was his height if he'd be able to finish around the basket. It took him a season to learn to do that. Entering his 4th season Felton still can't do it...

My friend told me yesterday that the Bobcats tried to get rid of their radio broadcasts for this year to save money, like completely not offer them at all, but the NBA wouldn't let them. What a worthless organization. That sounds like a great way to help build fan support.

they're losing so much money that they cut the marketing team. puttin all their stock in the team's success drawing in the fans. its just such an apathetic community, and there's been a couple of bonehead moves that have stunted their growth. the talent last year was capable of a playoff spot, but they get a coach with no coaching experience that is a complete moron and they miss the playoffs by 5 games. hopefully this year with a real coach, they can turn the corner.

i really want the team to succeed because i love basketball and i love having a team here in charlotte that i can go watch. it kills me that these stupid carolina fans that make up most of the charlotte population wont watch a competitive team that actively tries to bring in their favorite college players.

if these guys would draft one state player, there'd be an entire section of state fans there to cheer on that one dude.

I would've paid 1000 dollars to see this

Quote :
"From SLAM ONLINE - Game Notes: Sonics at Raptors: Pregame
In the hallway outside the Toronto locker room, Raptors GM Bryan "Dapper Dan" Colangelo is holding court with me and three of the local writers. As we discuss some of the big trades that went down this season, Primoz Brezec walks by and he is completely drenched in sweat from the pregame warmup.
As Brezec passes our group, he raps (loudly), "She said she wants a hood ni**a!" We all stare at each other for a few seconds trying to decipher what just happened, leading to Colangelo apologizing for the Slovenian's gangsta ways, and everyone doubling over in laughter.
It should not surprise you to discover that Primoz instantly became my favorite human being on the planet following that little outburst."

can I just reiterate how pissed off I am that we didn't draft Chris Douglas-Roberts? Granted, it's just one preseason game, but he lit it up today and would have been a GREAT guy to have coming off the bench behind Richardson and Wallace. Instead we drafted Kyle Weaver? Really? Then, we trade him for a future draft pick. Ridiculous. We could use a talent like CDR on this team.

that gives the bobcats more ammo in trading up to get both hansbrough & lawson in next year's draft (hell, maybe even ellington too)
