He will also star as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s version of “Alice in Wonderland.” The roles come after Depp helped Disney earn a combined $2.6 billion at the box office with the three pics in the “Pirates” franchise, also produced by Bruckheimer. “Alice in Wonderland,” skedded for 2010, will be shot using 3-D and performance capture technology similar to that used for “Beowulf.” Depp’s casting deals closed a full day Wednesday at the Kodak Theater, where Walt Disney Studios chairman Dick Cook touted the Mouse’s upcoming slate of pics during a showcase event for exhibitors, media and other industry insiders. I read about this yesterday!

I am really, really excited they are making a Pirates 4 and that Depp is going to be in it. I hope all the other main characters come back as well.

And Depp as the Madd Hatter is going to be crazy good

yea, i'm actually excited to see that one too. especially since they said it'll be in 3-D.

the only thing i'm disappointed about is the fact that it's going to take them 3yrs to get Pirates 4 into theaters. i'm worried that'll be too long between sequels, and that they won't have as big of an opening as they expect.

obviously, the first Pirates is the best. but i absolutely loved each movie, loved the plots, loved the jokes, and i think johnny depp's Jack Sparrow is hilarious. i can't wait!

and yes, i can see why some people would say that about the Pirates series. but i know more people who loved every minute of Pirates and didn't want to see the series end, than i do people who have hated each sequel they've made.

I absolutely love the pirates series!

And yes, Thumper, I do think it might be too long between sequels, But i'll still see it! I just really hope Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley sign up to be in it too.

while sniffing around for articles about pirates 4, i did come across one that said kiera knightley told them NO. but the article also said that she has lots of time to say YES and that she might be saying NO to try and get more money.

i don't understand why they wouldn't want to do another pirates movie. pirates has got to be one of the top 5 money-making franchises EVER and to turn your nose at it just seems silly. sure, they were stars before the movie. but imagine the kind of opportunites they've gotten since the movie.

if they're doing a pirates 4, then it seems like they'd have to have kiera and orlando come back - because the plot will surely center around kiera/orlando's child (to which she alluded at the very end of pirates 3 after the credits). seems kinda hard to write a script about a child whose parents aren't even in the movie.
