Quote :
"Still, shares of the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank plunged Friday as investors, the day after WaMu's failure, shifted their focus to other financial institutions that also suffer under the weight of mounting losses tied to toxic assets.
Shares plummeted $4.90, or 35.8 percent, to $8.80 in afternoon trading. Shares are down 64 percent this year."

They're talking about a merger with Citi right now

Drunkn, nobody is going to answer that.

Wachovia is the largest employer in charlotte. It going under/away would be devastating to the local economy.

Chill, your money will be fine (may not be making interest anymore, but it'll all be there). Its the damn shares you should worry about if your holding.

manox, I'm not worried about the literal moneys, I'm worried about the economic impact, locally. This will effect many, many more than just the bank and it's employees.

That's assuming china is strong enough w/out a large quantity of exports to the US, or the other economies heavily tied to ours.

Brazil? I dunno?

the whole world doesn't depend on us lol. China does but they can eventually replace us. Sure our economies collapse would hurt the global economy but it would recover quickly as any voids left by us would be filled.

LOL you don't think the financial markets are heavily tied? Who do you think is covering our national debt? Maybe the individual industries aren't tied directly, but they are indirectly, whether it be supply, demand, or both.

you're a fool. if the american financial system fails, who does china sell to? who does india sell to? their money becomes immediately devalued because they don't have anywhere to spend it.

all these folks who are like "oh, it's FDIC insured. i'm not worried." have no clue how long it takes for that shit to go through. they make the process take way too long. meanwhile you're stuck w/o any cash.

I think i'm going to get an SECU account and move all my cash money there.

I'm not worried about losing my money, i just don't like dealing with all of this uncertainty and being a customer of a mismanaged company.

how long till Citi runs into trouble?

yeah i feel ^. for most of us, our money is fine. we'll get a citi banking card and have our accounts transfered over. it won't be that bad. no different than when wachovia and first citizens merged.

citi will probably just dissolve the parts that suck and keep the wachovia name for the profitable parts.

which means im not going to even bother moving my business checking account from them.

the majority of my money is in BoA, with my mortgage being held by NC SECU

i think my wachovia checking/savings has a total of $600

i'm really not worried about it

it's thoughts and actions like these that exacerbate the situation...i'm not saying i blame you, but it's no better than running to fill up your tank when it's only down by a quarter when the rumors of a gas shortage start flying

^, ^^^ said down by a quarter.

I wouldn't pull any money i have out of banks, its just silly to do so this day and age. I just find it interesting that we have so many fewer banks now than we did six months ago.

me too. which sucks. i've been with wachovia since i was 16. we already have ncsecu accounts, but their online banking SUCKS, maybe i'll try bb&t

[Edited on September 29, 2008 at 9:31 AM. Reason : ^ i'm also worried about the consolidation of banks. not good for consumers]

i don't like bbt online banking. bac has the tits when it comes to online banking and wachovia is next in line, for as far as i can tell. i'd stick with your wachovia one, nothing much will change.
