This is a sad time for the hurricanes moving into this place. A little background for those of you not familiar this already had to be the worst situation for a stadium in all of pro sports and two teams play there. First of all the stadium is well out of Miami (about 15 miles) and NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION GOES THERE. How do you expect large amounts of people to go to weekday baseball games there when its nowhere near the population center and this section of 95 between Miami and FTLD is one of the most congested highways in the country? On a weekday it is a consistent 45 minute drive. Then when you get there the parking is all $25. For the nfl thats fine but you can't expect people to do that on a regular.

Watching this UNC game brings tears to my eyes because its nothing like the atmosphere we used to have. For Miami football everything was great with the history of the OB but this place is 20 miles from campus and 30 minutes away with no traffic. Just a disaster.

I'm tired of seeing nothing but those empty orange seats at every sporting event.

The Marlins are set to build a place at the OB site but are trying to get a place downtown at the Miami Arena site. That will be good because people will actually be able to get to the games. The dream scenario would've been to have a stadium downtown with the skyline as a backdrop and on the water like some other teams but prices are just much higher than most cities. I know its set in stone but it would be nice if Miami could just play in the new baseball stadium instead.

Football Stadiums can be in the middle of butt fuck because most fans don't have a problem making the trip 10 or less times a year

Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey arenas/stadiums need to be much closer to the population center to draw consistent crowds

The Marlins have to put their new field as close to center city Miami as possible to get anyone to go to a tuesday night game vs the Nationals

Nobody cares about Miami sports. They are just a status thing. You go when the teams are good to look like you fit in... Worst sports city in the country, by far.

Sounds like just another reason why the mighty U of Miami footballers have fallen. That sucks man.

You know now that you mention it, I'm from Buffalo and I had always thought Rich Stadium was far from the city. Although now I actually look at the distance, it's really only 10-12 miles outside the city. 25 miles away seems downright silly.

Well you obviously don't know anything about Miami. These are the words of a person that took a vacation to Miami Beach and came to conclusions on Miami.

Their basketball team was good this past season and yet they averaged like 5,000 a game...

Our team was pathetic and we averaged like 15,000.

Dullphins Stadium is atrocious in terms of location. I do like the stadium itself though. It really is nice. Just worst location ever. And the noon kickoff is terrible. Its too freakin' hot.

The OB was a lot of fun, much better atmosphere.

And NyM, if Miami is such a bad sports town- then why do they still have all those franchises? People still go to sporting events if/when it is convenient. Its not all THAT bad. Also, most people in Miami are transient. Meaning they come from other places and root for their old teams. Lots and lots of sports fans- who may catch a game here or there out of general interest do go to games. They just like the Mets, the Cubs, the Jets, the Lakers, or the Knicks that much more. I go to Marlins, Dolphins, and UM games. I just wish the venues were more convenient!

Also, there is just too much other shit you can be doing in Miami. Unless you are a die-hard- most people are not going to go watch sporting events when there is the beach, fishing, golf, art festivals, other outdoor activities, and all that cultural stuff for equal or less cost. I never have had a weekend (or day off) that I was bored since I have lived here.

You don't have to be from Miami or even to have ever been there to know Miami is clearly one of the worst sports cities in the country. That's just common knowledge.

You do realize the University of Miami has just a little over 10,000 undergraduates, right?

or are you just another ignorant fuck that thinks it's a huge public university located in downtown, sell me some crack and shoot me in the face miami?

i'm a dolphins fan and I remember when we were good, the stadium was packed and it was a tough place to play on sunday. Now, I can't blame anyone for deciding not to go watch that shitty product that has been out there the past few yrs

Well I'm mainly talking about for college games. Dolphin stadium is pretty average for an nfl stadium but its just not a college atmosphere. Its like those home games fsu plays in Jacksonville.

Nice try on the trolling, BUT before the patriots were dominant, we were competing for the AFC east every year.

Here, let me show you.

1998: 10-6
1999: 9-7
2000: 11-5
2001: 11-5

Even in 03, we finished 10-6 but didnt make the playoffs.

i catch games there. i don't think its so bad. the best idea for any sports teams in South Florida is to be located either downtown Miami or between FTL and WPB (especially for baseball).

i was always disappointed by Marlins games attendance. but I support "the Fish" teams no matter what. GO DOLPHIN'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!1.

What? Can you read?

I was arguing for you, bringing up a couple of common misconceptions about the university of miami... I live in Coral Gables.

and by the way, I was in Overtown earlier this year and was yelled at by multiple crackheads. "brrrap!" to quote them exactly, except way scarier and more ridiculous than it sounds. I think it's you who hasn't been down there in a while.

Ya you said Coral gables was nice but just because you argued one point for me doesn't give you immunity for your subsequent points. Overtown=/=downtown and is the worst neighborhood in the area. Sure its not far from downtown but to use an example from there as downtown is just misleading.

You are ridiculous.

I was mentioning a COMMON MISCONCEPTION. I WASN'T SAYING IT AS A FACT THAT I BELIEVED. ARE YOU TRULY RETARDED?

and now I see that I wasn't actually arguing for you, just against the one guy regarding basketball UM turnout, so, FUCK YOURSELF ENTIRELY, STOP BITCHING.

Ha ha I remember going to the NC State - Minnesota bowl game in 2000 or whatever during Rivers freshman season. The game was at Pro Player stadium. That place was empty as shit. Great game though and Koren/Phil tore shit up in the 2nd half overcoming the 24-0 1st half deficit.

Our seats were 1st row, right at the tunnel where the players come out. NO ONE even close to us. In the 4th Q, State kicked off a few times to some guy for Minnesota and each time as he was standing back there, we would start taunting him. After the 2nd kickoff, he turned around and flicked us off. It was hilarious.

As for the stadium, it sucks, is ugly as fuck, in a horrible location, and I hope I never see another game there.
