I've heard that if you put a metal spoon into a china teapot before pouring in boiled water, it will prevent the china from shattering. Is this true? Will the pot shatter without the spoon?

Because my teapot is Wedgwood. Think I'm gonna risk shattering a $150 teapot?

you have a $150 teapot.

you have worse problems than worrying if it will break

If you bring the teapot to temperature more slowly, you won't have to worry about it shattering due to sudden thermal expansion.

There is no way the metal spoon will absorb enough energy quick enough to prevent the pot from breaking. Sterling silver all the way.

Why would you buy a $150 teapot, if it can't even hold hot tea? You deserve for it to get shattered.

Also, this isn't really a concern unless you keep the teapot in the freezer.

Just make sure your spoon is up to date with the latest 'anti-shatter' firmware and it shouldn't be a problem.

^ The lift characteristics of a teapot make treadmill based ascent initiation a dubious prospect at best.

Formatting C: should take care of any shattering problems. Just be sure to download all the teapot's drivers before hand so you can reinstall them

watch out for that Eurasian plate. I don't know how much a spoon is going to prevent China from shattering honestly, but feel free to give it a shot.
