I have searched both tech talk and the lounge but found no relevant discussions more recent than a year ago. Perhaps they had a less than ideal thread topic and so my searching failed to find them? Either way, I would appreciate any hints as how to proceed to get more services for less.

I live in Cary and all our promotions have expired for Time Warner digital cable with HD DVR and road runner. However, when I call the best offer I can get seems to be ~$102 for the two services, which is what we had before but I remember hearing on TWW several months ago that some got the identical service for much less.

Mine and a bunch of other people's checkbooks are in your hands. Thank you.

Is the "deal" they're quoting you coming straight from TWC, or have you contacted one of their sales representatives that goes around to apartment complexes and stuff? Usually the sales reps offer better deals than twc customer service. I have the number of the woman who handles the area around Cary crossroads. If you want it, let me know and I'll PM it to you later.

The best TWC deal is not to go with TWC. They've accidentally cut my line 3 times in the last month when installing or uninstalling other residents' service. I've lost about 1.5 weeks total in terms of service and even after speaking on the phone for 45 minutes and finally getting to a manager, they refused to give me a partial refund for the lost service. This is in-spite of them admitting that it was their technicians who mistakenly cut my line 3 times.

What exactly did you say to them when you negotiated for this price, and how did you go about it? My "incentives" have also recently expired, but the price you're quoting is definitely one I could deal with. I am getting HD DVR, HBO and Cinemax, and RoadRunner. Let me know, eh?

I don't have any premium channels. But I just said I was unwilling to pay the $121 they are currently charging and said I would like to see if the operator could help me avoid changing service. When I did this a month ago I was offered cable+roadrunner for $83 a month, but I had to wait a month before I would be eligible. Well, now I called back twice and both times they called bullshit and said they best that could be done was $102.

Yeah switching away from TWC seems to be the only good option. I am hesitant to switch the cable to dish because I'm in an apartment but I might be moving soon. But they pi$$ed me off so bad the last time that I dropped their internet and found something else. Retards working the help desk can't do shit. Not to mention that the ones on the help line chat are the same ones on the sales chat.. I know that because after the help chat didn't help I went to cut off my internet and the same person came into the sales chat room.

I just got DirecTV. The guy said that if I move, they'll install another dish where I move to.

The current deal that I have with TWC (which ends at the end of October) is:

Quote :
"DIGIPIC 1000 COMBO 74.90
Includes Basic, Standard, Digital Variety, Digital Cable Box, Digital Remote and High Speed Internet"

With taxes and fees it ends up being $78.16/mo. The way the deal I got worked out was to get digital cable for the same price as standard cable. I think it was a few bucks off on RR also.

Well, BIGcementpon, I called her and she seemed very sorry to say, but there was currently nothing she could offer that would be better than the $102 I got from the customer retention department.

Well that sucks. I guess it was worth a shot though. They used to really be able to throw out some good deals, but apparently that's over now.

With my second call to TW tech support, I got about half credit for the month because my connection speed drops to about 1/10th at night. I got transferred from the Philippine call center to some dude in the US who had me run a speed check; I started running the thing and he goes" "Whoa--your ping just went to 1000!"

Just saw this over on AVS Forum in the Raleigh HDTV section:
Quote :
"I signed up via the sales chat on their website. I told them I wanted digital cable, 1 HD-DVR and road runner...don't even offer me digital phone. She came back and said $85 per month. I said upgrade the roadrunner to RR Turbo and I'll do it. She said for $4 more she could do RR Turbo, so I've got RR Turbo, digital cable with an HD-DVR for $89."

I've got RR, Digital Cable with HDDVR and it's not 85/month.

Good luck getting it indefinitely. My money says it's an intro or time-restricted deal.

fyi

the 2 year "price lock guarantee" is complete bullshit.

they make it sound like a...um..."price lock" but it's really just a standard 2 year service contract, complete with an ETF. I actually had to pay $10 MORE per month to "get" the price lock, but we agreed because we were sick of TWC arbitrarily raising our rates every 5-6 months.

I could see the value in it if they lowered your rate significantly in exchange for you signing a contract, but as-is it's straight bullshit. oh and the gravy is, that the 2 year "price lock guarantee" automatically renews after the first 2 years is up, AND they can raise rates at will before automatically locking you into another 2 year contract...all without you having to authorize anything. it all happens automatically...for YOUR convenience. how nice.

oh and another tidbit, the ONLY price that's locked by this contract, is your cable package...which is like half of most people's TWC bill. The rest of your bill (DVRs, internet, premiums, phone, other packages, bs) can be raised at will since it's not locked in.

they tried to hit me with a $50 ETF when i cancelled for uVerse, I bitched a little and got $25 back, yippee me. cause hitting outgoing customers with ETF's is the best way to ensure they return.

just got digital cable (180 channels) for $29.95/month for 12 months (plus one-time $14.95 service fee for them to come out and make sure all my jacks work and to remove the block on the pole)...i've never paid for cable television in my life, so i don't know how easy it will be to talk them down after the 12 months are up

i'm thinking about contacting earthlink to get the $29.95/month 7mbps/384kbps service...that, however, is only guaranteed for 6 months and i don't know how they respond when you bitch about the price change (everyone already knows the magic words to get TWC to put it back to previous price)
