96 Accord, not my car. 140k.
Woman driver.
Says there is hesitation when accelerating at highway speed.
I think it could be an old distributor (of course mine has never been replaced and it runs great).
Could need a tune up plug wires not attached properly oil in the plug wells dirty injectors?
I haven't checked the car, ever, I just wanted to tell her what to ask her mechanic to look at. 10/1/2008 12:04:02 AM |

Tell the mechanic? Who is she to tell the mechanic anything? She should tell the mechanic that there's hesitation, and he'll figure it out.
Why should we waste our time when you're not even doing the work? 10/1/2008 12:13:59 AM |

if it were plugs and wires, there's a good chance it would throw a misfire code 10/1/2008 10:22:35 AM |

A little bitter aren't ya?
Her husband refuses to take the car to tao auto and wants to take it to his "guy/shop".
The shop proclaimed it to be a valve issue and an expensive one at that. I want them to get a second opinion, but I also want to give them some clues at to what it could be. Why not have the customer suggest things, if the shop is worth their salt, they do a thorough diagnostic and find out for themselves.
true. i'll add that to the list.10/1/2008 5:41:30 PM |

is she hot? if so, i diagnose the problem to be a faulty husband. replace immediately with a BBR.
or, you could just tell the damn engine to quit drinking, watch where it's going, and it might not stumble so much.

I've learned by getting burned that the distributers in Hondas like to crap out at 160k miles.
Happened to me twice in one year on two civics.
Both times was the ignition coil. PITA because it nets you with no spark so you're stranded. One misfired for a few weeks before it finally failed so maybe I should have cared. The other ran find, parked it, and it never started again. 10/1/2008 6:49:25 PM |
