I just ordered a new license online with a change of address. Does anyone know if that will remove the under 21 thing/not make mine sideways if I didn't order in time to have it made before the change? It says you get a "duplicate" of the license you already hold, but you get to choose which background you want and obviously change your address, so I would assume they would take that off too ... not that it really matters but I like having answers.
Apparently they aren't all very good at looking at birthdays. I got wished "happy belated 21st birthday" this weekend ... a year and a half after I turned 21, but whatever.

NC congress took time to debate/vote on this. new license formats would entail a new template, thus that must be paid for.

guys... this really doesn't cost much of anything in tax dollars
i mean, other than if you consider the time spent discussing it as the waste... otherwise it literally is a minor change to the printing software
and by minor change, i mean choosing the vertical template rather than the horizontal one.

well public education funds certainly appear to have been misappropriate, but other than that...
So what would you have them spend their time on? Making new laws that people like you would just bitch about or perhaps getting rid of old laws that will result in people bitching just as much?
How about they just start giving out free blowjobs, then maybe they can make SOME of the people happy? 10/1/2008 1:56:47 PM |

how about:
- repairing/updating NC economy - nc housing market - public education, to include ever increasing college tuition - getting rid of all these stupid lottery debates/lawsuits/etc - public transportation edit: transportation infrastructure mainly (clear up any confusion among semantics) - natural resources conservation - water quality/supply
to name a few

So you want them to save the planet while putting in public transportation (which would have to be a better bus system, as we don't have the infrastructure for subway or elevated rail systems within the city).
Then you want them to stop talking about the lottery WHICH IS SET UP TO AID IN FUNDING THE PUBLIC EDUCATION PROBLEM YOU HAVE.
Then you want them to solve the housing market and recent economic downturn, which are both wholly federal issues.
Your plan is faultless, sir. 10/1/2008 2:05:28 PM |
wdprice3 BinaryBuffonary 45912 Posts user info edit post |
man, you're full of stupid
- I didn't say save the planet. I said we need to solve our water quality/supply problems and conserve natural resources, such as wetlands, which aid in water quality and storing flood waters.
- The current lottery lawsuits, etc. are claiming that it is a tax and did not go through the proper channels, thus politicians are trying to get rid of the lottery. I know it goes to help education, which I support. I DON'T SUPPORT THESE MORONS TRYING TO REPEAL THE LOTTERY.
- I said nothing about a rail/bus system. Those are good ideas, but would probably not work in NC, thus I do not approve these ideas. and improving our public transportation entails improving roads, highways, signal timing/phasing, etc., which can reduce pollution
- And do you really think NC doesn't have its own housing/economy problems, not related to the federal issues right now?
How about you read what I wrote, don't assume stupid shit, and get an education?

^in cities? yes, better bus systems would be awesome.
as for rail, I don't think it would work well at all. However, the charlotte rail system may prove me wrong. our current rail system is a failure, so I see no reason to believe a new one would be any better. but I could be wrong 10/1/2008 2:12:35 PM |
mawle427 All American 22137 Posts user info edit post |
I didn't infer that you meant "preserve the wetlands and other natural areas" when i said "save the planet", of course not. Oh wait, I guess my phrasing made you feel like i was saying it like was a bad thing.
And the water quality thing goes to regulation of emissions and pollution, which we will cause more and more of if we keep rebuilding all of the roads. People don't want to give more of their income in taxes to the DoT, and don't want toll roads, and don't want more taxation on the gas. But they want to somehow fix the infrastructure with that magical equipment that doesn't cost anything to run and miracles up its own resources.
Water supply is greatly influenced by how much precipitation we get, which, as of the last month or so, more and more of the state is out of drought conditions and the rest of the state that is still in drought conditions is moving out of them.
And I know that the state has it's own housing and economic issues, but until the Federal government get's it's head out of its ass and fixes its end, the state stuff will still be fucked regardless of how much time they spend on it. People are scared to get loans to buy houses because of interest rates and banks failing and houses getting repossessed and are not spending money because of the recent drop in the stock market, which was again caused by shit in the federal government. I understand that we have our own issues, but those are really not something that a lot can be done about at this time.
And maybe we can keep this a little more civil as a discussion rather than lashing out and making accusations of one another.
I'm merely saying that the little time spent on the licenses is really not a big enough of a deal to start bitching about how it is a waste of tax dollars. If nothing else, it will save a lot of people a lot of time and worry over the fact that if they still serve that person who has modified their license, they are sill legally liable for whatever that person does. 10/1/2008 2:38:28 PM |

the "little" time spent on this, plus the "little" time spent on these needless lottery repeals, plus the "little" time spent on so much other trivial/wasteful stuff adds up.
improving transportation != more pollution, if done properly. in fact, the opposite is true. If this state didn't waste so much money, more money could go to the DOT, without an increase in any taxes. Besides, we have billions of dollars for our infrastructure, much of it keeps getting wasted/tied up in pet projects.
water supply is still an issue and you can't say we can't do anything about it because its completely weather controlled. Water conservation, new water sources, improving the quality of existing water bodies, and new technologies should all be discussed. soon enough, this state may need desalinization plants.
and just because we have federal economic/housing issues, doesn't mean we forget about ours. we should be trying to find solutions to them to improve our economy, and when the national economy rebounds, our state economy will hopefully sky rocket.

I didn't say that the water supply deal was COMPLETELY weather controlled. I said greatly. Being that without precipitation, there is no water to conserve, really. And you know what happened when they implemented regulations to conserve water? People ignored it. They said "fuck you, i want green grass around my house and my car to SHINE!" Now sure, that is a small example of the situation, but a lot of larger water consumers were more strictly held to the regulations on use of the public water supply during that time. It still took a lot of rain to get us out of that. So that problem, with the recent rain, is slowly going away. And you will never get people to buy into conservation efforts to protect us in the future. The public is largely too short-sighted to care.
And yes, we have lots of money that is for our transportation infrastructure, but the DOT runs through that in no time because of how much it costs to do anything. My words about people wanting the roads fixed, but not wanting to pony up and pay for it, still stand.
And trying to fix the local economy outside of the federal stuff is kind of like calling a doctor and saying "I have a headache" and he tells you to come in and when you get there, he has this plan to cut the tumor out of your brain. Which is too bad seeing as how you just have a hangover.*
You can't fix the problem before you know exactly what the problem is. Now you can set up contingencies and plans, but you can't fix anything yet, really.
*I fully recognize how bad of an illustration that is, but i am rushed, as i have to go soon. 10/1/2008 2:58:35 PM |
