It's a great time to buy a truck as long as your job isn't in the shitter. 10/2/2008 3:49:37 PM |

It'd probably be a good time.
Domestics are cheap as hell. I have two friends that bought an F-150 and a Z71 with around $12-14k off the sticker price. Another friend got a 2006 extended cab Chevy 2500HD, 4x4, with only 20k miles for $16k.
From what I hear, the Toyotas aren't dropping much in price though... 10/2/2008 4:13:27 PM |

I talked with a guy over at the chevy dealership and he said they were hurting in the truck deparment. More people bought corvettes than their entire truck line. I was surprised, but then again, with employee pricing, who could resist a new c6 or z06?
They may be willing to work a deal to move some trucks...

^I thought the employee pricing didn't apply to the Corvette? My sister's fiance just bought an Equinox. I thought it was a pretty stupid move, but whatever...
I heard the Nissan dealership down in Goldsboro will give you a Versa for free if you buy a Titan pickup.
lmao.

It was surprising, but they did, even the z06! It was something seeing a NEW fully loaded 08 z06 marked down to $64,xxx (MSRP was like $75k or $76k...)
First time they've included the corvette into the employee pricing... 10/2/2008 4:31:22 PM |

great time to buy if you can pay cash. If you need a loan, forget about it. Even people with 800 credit scores are getting denied 10/2/2008 5:00:32 PM |

I just got a 2008 GMC Sierra for 16K during the Employee Discount period. It was marked 21K but with my trade, it dropped down to 16 and I'm happy about it.
I'm getting ready to refinance it through the Credit Union. *fingers crossed* 10/2/2008 7:36:10 PM |

you can't really consider what you get for your trade as "coming off the price" 10/2/2008 7:59:47 PM |

You are telling me!!! I tried to get a loan from SECU to get an Elise actually. They said, "you can have any car but that one..." I came back with a c6 and they said the same thing... I couldn't believe it. It was explained to me that these cars are in a "higher risk" in case they need to be "reposed" for any reason, therefore, I needed to pick another vehicle that was less of a "liability" to the CU should the loan default. (ie: Accord, Camry, etc..). Financial institutions aren't really lending at this point in time... I've got the score, income, yadda yadda yadda to get financed for these cars too
I called a few other commercial banks and the guy at North State Bank said they weren't lending unless you were a doctor (aka, making $texas) looking for a second mortgage on a home or wanted high finance loan and had been with the institution for a while (about 10 years) (ie:someone who's been with them for a while and wanting more money who has shown "loyalty" to that institution). Otherwise, no "risky" high end loans. Financial institutions are trying to keep hold of most of their remaining capital in case the market collapses even further. This is what he explained to me, and after talking to about 5 other lending institutions as well, I believe it. Don't get me wrong, I don't hold any grudge against these places (especially SECU).

^^^Thats worrisome to hear. I'm probably going to be trying to get a car loan in January. I've got good income and credit so hopefully by then the market will have a brighter outlook. 10/3/2008 7:58:47 AM |

I don't think you will have a problem financing a 3-4 year old car. That would suck though . 10/3/2008 8:10:28 AM |

Well, the elise I inquired on was a pre-owned 05. The vette was a new 08... Waiting only means bigger down payment on that c6, oh heck, I might just go for a z06 if the price is right...

^so you're coming around on the C6 idea huh? 10/3/2008 8:48:09 AM |

^Heh yeah... I've decided the c6 is a good platform all around for the wife and I... me
On that note, I'm sure if you are looking to finance a s2k, you should have no trouble with the lending departments. No discreditting the car, however, the s2k is not an exotic like the lotus or a "high performance" vehicle like the vette (two different classes I was considering). Also because it is a honda, I'm sure lending companies will be more open to financing a car like the s2k. Good Luck
And staying on topic, I'm sure lending is available to those with good credit/credit history and wanting a truck...

Why cant you finance through the dealer? They have got to have pretty damn good rates. Not 0.9% but i don't think 2-3% would be a stretch. 10/3/2008 2:48:36 PM |
