So I had some professional movers bring my stuff from NYC to NC for me. When I moved it went into storage for 2 months and then Tuesday they dropped it off when I asked them to.

It looks like they delivered everything except 2 very large picture boxes that held within 5 (total) framed posters. 3 of the 5 posters are irreplaceable and all the frames are expensive as the metal frame and glass front are custom sizes. I'd say monetarily they're worth about $350-400. They said they will try to locate them for me and were nice to me today on the phone.

My question is what to do if they say, oh we couldn't find them. They're both listed on the inventory sheet and I had the movers sign off saying they were missing before they left my house. All my stuff was also insured for the move with the moving company

Probably just by weight, or at least I think that is how they usually do it. Not sure how they'd figure out how much it weighs considering they lost it, though.

It all depends on the type of insurance you had with the moving company. There is full-value protection which will pay you the market value of the goods lost, but I am pretty sure that has to be documented. There is declared value as well, but that is done by the weight of the box.

Most people get the declared value and they pay you by the weight of the box. It is a ridiculously low amount, ie if the box lost weighed 40 puonds they would give you $60.00

Well shit, I figured that to mean they wouldn't cover anything valued over the the total weight of my stuff (i.e. whatever weight x price/lb = say $3000).

This could be absolute bullshit.

Yeah, happened to me once and I got screwed, they lost a box of jackets I had, 6 nice winter coats that they paid me ~$40.00 for. It was a rush move so I didn't have time to document everything I had box-by-box.

I don't recall the moving company offering increased insurance coverage for their services. However I do have renters insurance, would that maybe cover it?

Small Claims Court if you really want to. Read your paperwork though, they might have stuck in a loophole on this.

We had this happen with a ring that my dead grandmother had passed down to my mom. It was supposed to be passed down to the next female family member. Not only was it irreplaceable due to being a family heirloom, but it was EXTREMELY expensive. I'm sure that worthless fucking drug addict sold it to a pawn shop. The cockbag opened shit up and quickly went for the nicest looking piece in there. We never could get them to pay for it either, because everything else arrived.

But my mother is too trusting with some people and she also gives up on things too easily. IIRC, she had forgotten to take that ring out and separate it from the cheap jewelery, so it was just sitting in there with a bunch of shit that wasn't that great. The rest of her jewelery she took with her.

I'm still being patient with the movers on this, holding out hope. Now, about insurance and all that jazz...I fail to see how if THEY LOSE my shit they can't be held accountable. That just boggles the mind.
