I've got a friends family flying in from England tomorrow and I get the honor (?) of picking them up @ the airport. Only 1 of the 3 have been stateside before, and this is the (I think) third leg on their trip. So far they've been to Florida, Montana, and now good 'ole NC. SO. What should I meet them @ the airport with? I was thinking earl grey w/ Krispy Kreme. Later having some NC wine (muscadine variety, probably Duplin Brice's creek and/or Scuppernog and/or Hatteras Red.)Alternatives/suggestions? Try to keep it NC or at least US.

BBQ is a great idea. However they'll be here for the weekend. Last visit we talked them into Gravy Biscuits & pig brains. Gravy to them is brown gravy, and they were totally surprised at what they were served.

wine.......The only NC wine I would bring them is Biltmore.Pulled pork? Fried fish?
10/2/2008 11:49:36 PM
moonshine? Carolina beer?
10/2/2008 11:52:35 PM
^I also like the Biltmore, but I was actually leaning toward the Childress red table wine. That stuff is 9/10 for me. Their vintner's select is orgasmic, but is also like $80/bottle...

If only they could have waited a week to come! They could have experienced the real NC through the State Fair!!

(blah blah)(blah)
10/2/2008 11:57:02 PM
I KNOW. It's probably best though, don't want their last image of the USA to be redneck Mecca
10/2/2008 11:57:05 PM
Childress yes.Duplin no.Actually there are a fair number of good vineyards in the Yadkin Valley to chose from: http://www.yadkinvalleywineries.com/

Red Oak
10/3/2008 9:49:47 AM
^^They actually liked the US Biscuits. To them a biscuit was more like hard-tack than fluffy goodness. And we don't do any of this Bojangles/Biscuitville mess. That's one benefit of living 100yds from grandma's house. Fresh (cast iron) pan fried chicken, potato cakes, and fresh biscuits/gravy every saturday morning. WIN EDIT ^is Red Oak tasty? I've never tried it (although I ride by the brewery like every other week[Edited on October 3, 2008 at 9:52 AM. Reason : a]

My fiance is English and when his family came over they really loved Chatham Hill Winery. We even brought them a bunch of bottles over to the UK the last time we went. Chatham Hill is only 10 minutes from RDU also.

yeah chatham hill has some decent wines. They have free tours now on the weekends I think. and red oak is pretty tasty.
