THAT IS BECAUSE THE MARKET IS DOMINATED BY THE IPOD

PLUS THE IPOD IS ALMOST ALWAYS SUPERIOR

I'd have to say the iPod is superior, except for iTunes and the protection systems in place.

Apple's music security measures makes handling your music how you want more difficult than it should be. And iTunes just sucks, IMHO. It is slow, whenever you change computers/libraries, it takes forever for it to reload the library, iPods suck for use with multiple computers, etc.

If someone knows a way to get around all of this, please let me know

THE CREATIVE LABS HAS BETTER SOUND QUALITY AND IS SIMPLY SEEN BY A COMPUTER AS A PORTABLE DRIVE.

my superior sansa connects to my head unit via the AUX in, and charges via the lighter adapter

although i must say, that's pretty nice for $19

I think if you turn off the automatic syncing in Itunes, you can just add songs at liberty so you can use different ipods?

^yup

^^^the iphone/ipod can also do this, but this makes it so you can control the thing without trying to drive and select stuff on your ipod at the same time

YOUR SANSA IS NOT SUPERIOR SIR

even though it specifically says it won't charge 3g iPhones, what makes you sure it will?

i know someone that has one, and it works fine

it gives the message about how it's not made for iphone, but you just hit dismiss and it works fine.

anything with a dock connector will at least CHARGE anything that accepts a dock connector (the exception here is firewire). the device looks at a pin that's attached to a resistor to determine whether the accessory was made for its device type or not.

I am considering this for the charge feature really as the aux input works just fine for me now.

you also get a slick interface

also, cables with dock connectors that charge and provide an aux out retail for like $49
you'd pay $20 for a car adapter for your ipod anyway

this is so much more than that, and it's cheaper.

Bought one b/c I've been using a crappy tape adapter for too long. Considering the antenna direct connector referenced above also.

check to see if you've got a cd changer input - if so, you can normally find an interface that will emulate a cd changer that effectively gives you an aux in. they make them for most OEM head units.

I've actually got a factory CD changer too.

Maybe there's something like you're talking about that can go inline between the changer and the input...must do some research in the 7-9 days the item will take to arrive.

put it in this afternoon, it looks awesome and works wonderfully. of course, this can be attributed mainly to my excellent install skills, son.

it works on the first gen iphone, i found out

it doesn't work on the 3g because apple decided to be retarded and disable charging by the 12v firewire pins... which the majority of every accessory that charges ipods on the market today use...

there is a fix though - cablejive.com makes a charge converter that steps the 12v down to 5v and puts it on the usb pins... i ordered one yesterday.

hahaha

it's still cheaper than any other ipod interface that is equivalent to this

you could make a converter yourself with a couple resistors or a voltage regulator

I really dont need the interface.. I MAINLY WANTED IT FOR THE CHARGER!!!, that just happened to have a cool interface with some good capabilities for a great price. . I'll just pick up a car charger from cellphoneshop.net for 3 bucks and go back to my old tape converter.

tape converters sound like shit though

and you're way more likely to wreck your car if you're fidgeting with your iphone while driving
