How good are you at statics? Did you have the same teacher as they have? How long ago did you take it?

you shouldn't. if he needs help in statics, helping him get through it will just set him up for bigger failure and disappointment later.

[Edited on October 6, 2008 at 1:44 PM. Reason : unless he has howard, because that would be somewhat understandable.]

[Edited on October 6, 2008 at 1:44 PM. Reason : sum of left = sum of right, sum of up = sum of down, moments = 0...$100 plz]

The ASPSA (academic support program for student athletes...i think) on campus pays the tutors ~10 bucks an hour to tutor student athletes. The pay depends on the tutors education level, not the coursework. I did it as a masters student and did it for 10 an hour for a couple hours a week. Was really easy and looked OK on the resume. I think undergrads got 8 something and PhD kids got like 12.

Not at all saying these previous posts are too high/low. Just throwing some more information out there. I personally think the 10 is too low. I looked into one for some calc-refreshening when I started my program and I think 15-20 was standard. No one was really above 20, 15 seemed common.

as a student who went through statics, sometimes problems take so long to do that you can only really get through one complete problem in an hour. I wouldn't pay someone more than $15 an hour to teach me what I could really honestly learn if I paid attention in Dr. Parish's class.

keep in mind statics students do have access to SI, too. So they could get free tutoring if they wanted to..and still can through the UTC.

"Is tutoring available for all classes? We offer various types of academic assistance for many 100- and 200-level courses (primarily in math, physics, chemistry, foreign languages, economics, biology, and 300 level statistics) as well as all writing and speaking needs. Each semester our pool of tutors changes, so there may be only a handful of tutors for some courses. It is best to come early in the semester since we operate on a first-come, first-served basis."

I'd be surprised if there wasn't someone that could tutor statics though

^^maybe for certain sections or maybe they have just started it. all i know is i took it fall 2007 with dr. ram and we had no SI.

SI and/or tutoring for statics is kinda dumb imo. just prolonging the time until failure and giving a false sense of hope.

[Edited on October 7, 2008 at 3:35 PM. Reason : ^yeah, the only folks in a position to tutor statics have better things to do than tutor statics]

"I'm already tutoring one person right now, I don't have the time for another. If you ask around somebody else can probably help you."

I did tutoring for free for a friend. I'd have done it for classmates too had I not been so non-sociable with them.
