trey parker and matt stone would probably disagree with you. i read an interview with them once where they said when new episodes start coming out they don't start working on the first one until about a month before it's supposed to air. then after the first episode they start working on the next week's over the next 5 or 6 days. they said they tend to overthink themselves and try too hard on the first one and that their best ideas tend to come to them when they're faced with the pressure of pumping out a new episode quickly. it also makes it easier for them to lampoon current events that way.

I think that both Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull and last weeks episode of South Park are two of the saddest attempts at entertainment ever made. Seriously, that was maybe the worst episode of the entire series.
