Well, I just caught this one outside my door. The reason I caught it was to protect it from everyone who would possibly try and kill it. I plan on relocating it to the other side of the property near the forest.

I had originally planned on keeping it when I caught it. It is a very pretty snake, and completely healthy from my quick inspection of it. What was also cool was that it never struck or became defensive while I was handling it.
I then decided it would be better free, even if its odds of living are not nearly as good. 10/8/2008 11:01:48 PM |

^^better off that way. rough green snakes arent bitey snakes. i have never had one make the least bit of an attempt to bite.
i've heard they dont do well in captivity, though they eat soft-bodied inverts and some people have been able to get them to feed on crickets.

Caught one yesterday, its maybe 4 in long, black with a yellow ring around its neck. Third one I have seen like this in the last month, what is it? 10/9/2008 9:22:39 AM |

Quote : | "It is a yellow ring neck. Ring necks are nocturnal and it is a rare treat to see one during the day. They prefer damp areas hiding under loose rocks or dead trees. They grow up to 15 inches in length. Feeding primarily on small salamanders, lizards, and frogs, as well as earthworms and juvenile snakes of other species. They use partial constriction when subduing prey
Although they fall into the category of being venomous, they pose no threat to humans and can be safely handled and are commonly seen in the pet trade. It is rare for them to bite, and if picked up they secrete from the corners of the mouth foul smelling saliva." |
