Colin Powell has been pretty quiet lately, I suspect he wants to endorse Obama (similar view on foreign policy for one) but I doubt he will do so.

"Colin Powell’s son Michael, a McCain adviser and the former commissioner of the FCC, says he wouldn’t be surprised if his father doesn’t make an endorsement.

“People keep waiting for him to hold a press conference,” Powell told Politico. “I suspect they might be waiting forever.”"

Hopefully that's just optimism from his son

He does support Obama. I read that the Bush administration contacted him but asked him to keep it quiet and not embarrass the departing administration.

Powell being the good soldier that he always is it seems, looks like he will comply.

Perhaps pissed off at Dubya but still holds some loyalty to Bush Sr. An "I'm not doing this for you but for the sake of your father" type of deal.

He has nothing to gain by politicizing himself in this race, why would he?

yeah, not to mention the backlash he would receive of people accusing him of doing it only because of race

in case you haven't noticed, powell isn't a politician and doesn't base every decision on what he gains or loses.

^^ no doubt thats a factor in his decision making

You know Colin Powell? Where did you meet him?

Powell has always shown center-right political views, similar to McCain circa 2000 and before. Now, he may be voting for Obama, or McCain, or whoever. But no one knows that except him. If he doesn't endorse somebody maybe that means he really isn't a big fan of either? I mean, heaven forbid the man not support either candidate, we couldn't have that.

i still believe BushCo holds some serious dirt over Colin Powell's head.

it's the only way i can resolve my own cognitive dissonance.

Yeah... do I really need to say anything about this?

Coming after that, an endorsement might be a liability.

maybe he should bring a stack of 36" x 60" posterboards illustrating the sterling-ness of Stevens' integrity.
