If you could choose which government posts a TWWer would work, who would you put there and why? The position could range from President to Secretary of Defense or Treasury, Fed Chairman, senator, congressman, sheriff... whatever.
I would make theDuke866 Secretary of Defense because he has experience in the military and he seems like the most level-headed guy in TSB. Plus he's a pretty fair moderator.

The more I've learned about economics the more I've understood Loneshark. He's clearly very educated on the basics, theory, and basics. However he is a clear "efficient market" spokesman. I wouldn't want him leading any economic advisory position with this bias.
To be fair, I can't name a single person I'd completely trust with being an economic adviser despite the great number of teaching from important economic professors, class books, and personal study I've put into the issue within the last two years.

Being a dictator is a great way to save yourself the trouble of ever having to plan for retirement. And, considering what is often done to their bodies, a funeral won't really be an issue either. Dictators should probably get a better union. I think Castro had one.

Secretary of State: Hardest to call out of TWWers. I'd probably make a personal decision in this case based on the assumption I'd be president and thus would be analyzing their advice. I'd pick someone who generally logically disagreed with me.
Secretary of the Treasury: Loneshark. Despite what I posted about his opinion on economic matters he is by far the most qualified TTWer for this position. In addition a possible nominee for Secretary of State. I consider economics to be an incredible driving force for for all domestic and policy arguments.
Secretary of Defense: Redguard. Consistently posts the most logical and reasoned posts on matters of military significance. In addition a possible nominee for Secretary of State.

I'll hope the US State Department feels the same way, as much as I'd love for them to send me to Tajikistan. Although I'd probably have to tone down the drinking in England; embarrassing them wouldn't help the diplomatic rapport.

I can't imagine a worse diplomat than Socks``, assuming for the moment that we're excluding salisburyboy and steve9194. That's exactly what we need in a diplomatic setting -- "Oh, well, you say this now, but ten years ago you said this thing about a completely unrelated subject ooooohhhh burn!"
My Secretary of State nominee would probably be SkiSalomon, given that he has a lot of relevant experience in the field (both in the sense of, "the field of study" and "out there in the shit).10/10/2008 4:51:41 AM |

He would be perfect for me, because he often challenges what I suggest. This is definitely the result of him holding viewpoints on both sides of the political spectrum. However, that is exactly what I want from a Secretary of State, someone that voices his opinion on nearly every idea that I raise with an intelligent response based on his past experiences with the issues. Finding and labeling a person that consistently responses intelligently to me in TSB cannot be attributed to the majority of you. My Secretary of State would have to be a divergent and perhaps cynical personality. There would be no "Yes" men in my cabinet.

^^I'm not suggesting that yes-men are desirable, or that Socks`` contrary nature wouldn't be useful when he's actually sitting in the cabinet providing ideas. But the Secretary of State is the country's top diplomat, too. There are certain circumstances with certain people where he needs to be able to turn that off. I didn't mean he was going to be saying "ooooohhh burn" to his president, I meant he was going to say it to some other President, probably during crucial high-level talks about trade or nuclear proliferation. 10/10/2008 1:26:13 PM |

LoneSnark doesn't seem like such an expert once you get past Econ 201/202 and realize that people aren't rational actors or virtuous all the time, externalities are way more important than you thought, the information in the market is more often than not faulty and thus very imperfect, no first world country follows the econ advice they constantly force on any other non-1st world country, most economists are bullshit artists, and than you've been admiring the econ knowledge of a CSC major who likes to read Cato a lot all of these years.

hooksaw - Chief of Staff, because you want a hard-fighting SOB getting shit done in your office. Plus, he has good independent feedback on policy.
Gamecat - Sect of State, because you want a smart, level headed guy as your face to the world.
LoneSnark - Sect of Tres, because he's knowledgeable in econ and I think having someone with a libertarian bent in a position of power is always a good thing. That or maybe head of NASA. He and Me, We All About Privatizing Space.
Kainen - Sect of Energy, we both seem concerned about climate change and he recognizes that nuclear power is important step in lower our ghg emissions.
Stimwalt - Sec of Labor, because he reminds me of Robert Reich in a good way
kwsmith2 - Fed Chairman, because he's got the best background in econ and is more of a technocrat. so he would prob do well here.
Redneck Bob - Sect of Ag. Because he would tear that shit up.

Sec. of Education - Shadowrunner: One of the most cerebral people I have had the pleasure of meeting and would feel confident with him sculpting the minds of our future.
