Quote : | "A 90-year-old woman driving her new Dodge Challenger died Sunday after her car slammed into a pole and burst into flames, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
BSO released information about the crash on Monday. Here is how police described what happened:
About 10 a.m., Maria Brunetti of Pompano Beach was driving her 2009 Dodge Challenger south on South Andrews Avenue, approaching McNab Road.
Homicide detectives believe that Brunetti accelerated the car instead of braking when she tried turning east onto McNab and lost control.
The Dodge Challenger slammed into a concrete pole and caught fire, with Brunetti and her 47-year-old son, Peter Brunetti, trapped inside. Both wore their seat belts.
Bystanders pulled the pair from the burning vehicle before fire-rescue arrived, which took both to North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach.
Maria Brunetti was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Peter Brunetti was in serious condition.
The Challenger was destroyed. The number of miles on the odometer was 151.

What in the fuck was a 90 year old woman doing behind the wheel of a rwd tank anyway? She drifted the car, clearly, and had no fucking clue about how to recover. Being 90, she probably could only manage to death grip the wheel and slam the gas all the way to the floor at that point (Via muscle contraction y0). 90 year old people really have no business driving. Their reactions are so slow and imprecise that they cannot respond quickly enough to avoid accidents if anything goes wrong.
They need to develop reaction testing that demonstrates the ability to clearly SEE an approaching problem and properly REACT to it within a reasonable time dammit. Then they need to restrict the type of vehicle that can be driven by these old people. Massively potent TCS and "ASM" that cannot be disabled must be included.

That makes sense actually, they test your vision, why not test your reaction time? It could be something as simple as an addition to the viewing box, it could flash white repeatedly and then flash red at a random time, and measure how long it took you to push a button in response to it. Something like that. 10/15/2008 4:23:16 AM |

it is widely known that reaction time is about the same for all people. you and michael shumacker have the same reaction time. he just thinks ahead better than you do. and old people can't quite do that efficiently. 10/15/2008 8:15:47 AM |

Maybe it was her dying wish -- I think it'd be pretty damn awesome to die @ 90 years old while driving a brand new challenger. Better than dying in a bed with a bunch of tubes hooked up to you. 10/15/2008 9:14:04 AM |

This is classic old people thinking. When I worked at the car wash in high school all these old folks would come in sporting Crown Vics, Grand Marquis', Caprices, etc. It was ingrained in their brain that a nice car had to have a V8. That's just how cars were marketed back in the 50's. Meanwhile there were plenty of much nicer six cylinder cars making more power that would blow their doors off. They wouldn't even touch the supercharged Park Avenues simply for the fact that they were missing two cylinders.

Oh my bad, I misred it. I skimmed it and put in words so it read like "i wonder if the woman had an original one like back in the day." assuming you meant she wrecked the original. my fault.
My dad had an old charger. He don't care for the new ones. I'm waiting to see if/when they come back out with the cuda... 10/15/2008 12:42:25 PM |

Her son probably talked her into buying it because he wanted it and he knew she was more than likely going to croak soon.
