I'm pretty sure that if you use the phrase "jump the shark" during discussion of the first episode of a show that just proves that the phrase "jump the shark" has itself "jumped the shark". 10/15/2008 8:41:22 PM |

i watched it - i think it's an interesting idea - they needed more time than the 1hr season premiere to elaborate more i thought - not sure they are going to implement the idea to my tastes 10/15/2008 10:09:53 PM |

i kinda wish they hadn't rushed henry finding out about edward, i think that could've been interesting had it played out over a couple of episodes. we'll see how it goes though 10/15/2008 10:11:31 PM |

I decided not to watch this show after reading this section of Alan Sepinwall's review (he's a TV writer for the New Jersey Star Ledger):
Quote : | ""My Own Worst Enemy" isn't remotely good enough to be as stupid as it is.
It's the sort of show where if you stop for even 5 seconds to think about what's happening, you'll realize none of it makes any sense. A Michael Bay movie can get away with assertions you might want to question -- Alien robots might talk like rappers! A 66-year-old Scotsman might be able to kill dozens of trained mercenaries by himself! Josh Hartnett is a credible leading man! -- because there are so many pretty pictures and loud explosions to distract your brain from properly rebooting. A mid-budget NBC drama starring Christian Slater doesn't have that luxury. There are plenty of dull passages where it's impossible not to ask who these people are, why they do what they do, and -- between this show, "Knight Rider" and "Kath & Kim" -- how much contempt NBC must have for its own audience's intelligence." |

I don't know... I didn't think the show was too bad. I agree that a 2-hr premiere would have been much better, so he wouldn't have found out about himself so damn quickly. I'm really interested in how they can develop the story and this man's relationship with his other side. 10/16/2008 6:44:23 AM |

i agree. i think spacing it out and making it more of a mystery would have been a better way to start the show. that said, i still liked the first episode but it seems like each week is going to be the same thing. hard to see how this show is going to stay fresh from week to week10/20/2008 7:23:52 PM |

I just watched tonights episode (the first one I had seen) and I though it was fairly good.
It's no The Unit, but it's probably worth watching if the football game sucks. 10/20/2008 11:13:36 PM |

I really wanted to like this show, but the ridiculous premise is making it next to impossible. Firstly, why in hell would they take a trained agent super-spy guy and put in an off switch? There's no reasonable explanation. I could understand if he was some monster killing-machine that was incapable of behaving in normal society. But he's not. Edward is still completely capable of being undercover as a "normal" person without the Henry personality being thrown into his head. Introducing another personality just seems like the lamest plot device ever if you ask me. It's just asking for trouble. Which I guess some people thought would make for a good television show. But I'm not buying it.
Speaking of lame plot devices, they've now lost control of switching personalities but yet they keep him on active duty? That's just beyond stupid. That would never happen. I refuse to believe they would let an untrained person continue to go on top-secret missions. It's just too stupid to believe. NBC already has a show about a normal guy that ends up in the middle of spy missions. And sad as it is to believe, having some computer program download terrabytes of data into your brain is actually more of a plausible scenario for me to wrap my mind around. Plus Chuck is kinda funny. This show just...sucks. 10/21/2008 11:09:11 PM |
