In high-school we had the "chill-out" room. If you showed up late to class, you would have to go to chill out, you would have to wait there for 10 minutes from the time you signed in, and then the person in the room would write you a pass to class. That didn't help much.If you pissed off a teacher they could send you to chill-out for the rest of the period.

^We had 'lock out' if we were late to class, except you just sat there and did whatever you wanted instead of going back to class. 3 lockouts = ISS tho but yeah you can't stick stick an 8 year old autistic kid in a room for 3 hours and not expect a lawsuit.

This is what's needed.

Children are much like dogs or other animals -- they must be domesticated, and the only way to get through to them is physical correction and a dose of shame. Time-out is bullshit. Belts, switches, and a strong hand are the best tools for breaking an insolent child's spirit. It has to start early, though; if they haven't learned who's boss by age 2, you've lost them. Self-esteem is important for psychological well-being but humility is equally important for functioning in society. That's how I was raised -- I was spanked when I did bad, but I was praised when I was good, much like you do with a puppy. Believe in yourself, but keep your ego in check, and remember that there will be consequences if you fuck up.What's unfortunate is that these days, people are paranoid over child abuse, and over-extend the definition thereof to any form of physical correction. In the good ol' days, kids got spanked by their teachers, parents, and anyone else who caught them fucking up. These days, parents are afraid to spank their little brats for fear of being reported for abuse by some whiny prig who finds a bruise. As for this autistic kid, why was she in a regular classroom in the first place? Shouldn't her school have teachers who specialize in dealing with autism?

that's another thing... people these days are so quick to label a kid "autistic"
