"They don't like being around other people so they might increase their negative behavior because they view it a reward,""

and then to follow it up with this quote...WHICH IS IT? WE ARE WRONG FOR PUNISHING KIDS BECAUSE WE ARE NOT PUNISHING THEM?

Quote :
"If it is used to isolate the child, punish the child for a behavior, then we would view it as not productive and not positive"

??

Quote :
"Loeffler said the time-out room rules required that before she could be released, she must sit on the floor with her legs crossed without moving a muscle for at least five minutes.

"If she said something, grimaced at them, they would restart the clock and she was not capable of doing that," Loeffler said. "That's why it was three hours."
"

ha i knew it, she brought it on herself...granted they most likely shoulda let the girluse the restroom.....but then again i promise you that kid peed on herself intentionally...kids do that shit when theyre pissed about bein disciplined (no pun intended)

But, but. . .what about self-esteem? You showed up three days in a row on time--here's a trophy, little one. You're our future!

In high-school we had the "chill-out" room. If you showed up late to class, you would have to go to chill out, you would have to wait there for 10 minutes from the time you signed in, and then the person in the room would write you a pass to class. That didn't help much.

If you pissed off a teacher they could send you to chill-out for the rest of the period.

^We had 'lock out' if we were late to class, except you just sat there and did whatever you wanted instead of going back to class. 3 lockouts = ISS tho

but yeah you can't stick stick an 8 year old autistic kid in a room for 3 hours and not expect a lawsuit.

Children are much like dogs or other animals -- they must be domesticated, and the only way to get through to them is physical correction and a dose of shame. Time-out is bullshit. Belts, switches, and a strong hand are the best tools for breaking an insolent child's spirit. It has to start early, though; if they haven't learned who's boss by age 2, you've lost them. Self-esteem is important for psychological well-being but humility is equally important for functioning in society. That's how I was raised -- I was spanked when I did bad, but I was praised when I was good, much like you do with a puppy. Believe in yourself, but keep your ego in check, and remember that there will be consequences if you fuck up.

What's unfortunate is that these days, people are paranoid over child abuse, and over-extend the definition thereof to any form of physical correction. In the good ol' days, kids got spanked by their teachers, parents, and anyone else who caught them fucking up. These days, parents are afraid to spank their little brats for fear of being reported for abuse by some whiny prig who finds a bruise.

As for this autistic kid, why was she in a regular classroom in the first place? Shouldn't her school have teachers who specialize in dealing with autism?

That is not true at all. Do not beat your pets.

As for children, you are right about parents having that fear. So they do other things... like yell until their throats are sore and call their kids the meanest things you can think of. I'd rather be spanked.

^ raleighboy thinks its okay to beat puppies.
