when he was in town for a conference. So he calls me yesterday and asks if I can go down to the hotel to pick up something he left in the room by mistake. I say "sure......what is it?"
He says, "A gnome...."

I'm just sort of bewildered.... so he goes on, "it's waiting at the front desk.....it's about 18" tall.....green and red....." and I stop him there and say, "Dad...do you really think there are so many gnomes at the front desk that I'm going to need to describe it to them?"

^^^^it's L.A. dnl, them fuckers are everywhere.

^^^I mean it was an internet related conference...nothing to do with travelocity which is of course what I associate gnomes with....no clue as to why this was there

^^the odder thing is that a couple days before I had gone there to get lunch with him before he left and was in the hotel room...and specifically looked to make sure for him that he hadn't left anything there....and there was no 18" plastic, plug-in, green white and red anything....

not sure exactly which one this was but one of my dad's companies was co-hosting part of it so I wandered into one of the sessions and it was very technical. I mean there were like 1000 or so people there and they looked interested enough....but I stuck out like a sore thumb so I got the hell outta there

What makes this thread twice as funny for me is that I am aware of the fact that the whole
Travelocity gnome sensation began with the story plot in the movie Amelie in which the girl steals
her father's gnome and sends it around the world, having her stewardess friend photograph it in
front of various landmarks. The photos are sent back to the father without description, one after
the other as the friend tours the world, until the gnome is returned safely to his garden. Amelie's
goal was to get her father out of the house.

And it was her dad's gnome, get it? GET IT?

You are so cool for being aware of that. You're probably the only person to ever see Amelie. I'm glad you enlightened all that haven't seen Amelie.
