Quote : | "Catholic is an adjective derived from the Greek adjective '?a???????' / 'katholikos', meaning "whole" or "complete" [1]. In the context of Christian ecclesiology, it has a rich history and several usages. For Roman Catholics, the term "Catholic Church" refers to the Church, both Western and Eastern, in full communion with the Bishop of Rome. Protestants use it to refer to the entire body of believers in Jesus Christ. " |

Methodist version of apostles creed
Quote : | " I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. " |

Quote : | "Some Protestant Churches avoid using the term completely, to the extent among many Lutherans of reciting the Creed with the word Christian in place of Catholic. [10][11][12] The Orthodox Churches share some of the concerns about Roman Catholic papal claims, but disagree with some Protestants about the nature of the Church as one body. For some, to use the word "Catholic" at all is to appear to give credence to papal claims." |
i grew up baptist, and the term 'catholic' was used synonymously with 'nonbeliever'10/20/2008 2:10:53 AM |

ok there was the christian church. Then Henry the 8th married his dead brother's wife, but she couldn't have kids. so he wanted to divorce her to bwn anne bolyn. so he made his own church- you should know the rest.
lutherans are from an old monk dude in Germany, who was the the REAL Martin Luther in 1490s. He posted some shit on the door about his beef with the church and broke away.
so the original chrisitan church with the pope and shit is the catholic church, but there is now western and eastern after the great schism. 10/20/2008 9:24:03 PM |
