Excused absence for 10/20?

Adam,

I am feeling very ill today and may not be able to make it to our lecture this evening. If I do not make it I will surely review the video once it is posted online. However, I do not want this to negatively impact my grade in the course. Please let me know if my illness poses a serious threat to my grade point average in which case I will administer a stern lecture to key infected areas. As may be apparent I'm a bit whacked out on cold medecine. Thanks.

I've never understood the point of attendance policies in college. If you're paying for it you shouldn't be required to attend. I'm fine with participation grades, but mandatory attendance is just dumb.

The real question is, what time is your lecture? You should give at least a 3-6 hour notice that you won't be there if you expect leniency.

You're fucked. 2 hours notice is not sufficient. You have to remember that your TA probably has a pretty full schedule and may not check email but once in the afternoon, likely around lunch.

This is a 150-200 person lecture. I lose points for 1 unexcused absence, 3 excused absences (this one is my first) or "excessive" tardiness. I have only made A's in this class thus far and the class is only Pass/Fail. BUT there is a B-wall.

we were supposed to have a lecture from Richard Sennet about Linux and the Open Source movement as a cooperative model for media work which he discussed in his recent book The Crafstman but he has also been really sick (but in and out of the hospital, unlike me).
