Maybe you care about the NC Governor's race. I know I did before I moved. I cared a lot. See there's this guy, Michael Munger who is running for governor on the Libertarian party ticket. Now normally I wouldn't have mentioned this because I know I have pretty different political views than a lot of thewolfweb, but after watching the NC Governor debate last week, I can't believe any educated person would vote for either of the other two people running. The question on how to handle rising crime in the state sealed the deal for me, to have to tell someone about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp1_JUyQO_Y That's the first of six parts of the debate, it's so worth listening to. In a position where none of the candidates are inspiring, amazing orators, the Libertarian guy looks like gold. While the other two bicker about how one is worse than the other, Munger actually ANSWERS THE QUESTIONS, with real, true speaking solutions to the myriad of problems and challenges facing North Carolina. 10/21/2008 3:50:43 PM |

I know you're thinking, oh geeze, another libertarian nutjob. Just watch the first two segments of the debate. If nothing else, you will probably want to vote for Munger just out of intense spite of the other two. 10/21/2008 3:55:25 PM |

i've watched a few things with him and he really would make a great govenrnor. However there is no shot at him winning so I probably won't vote for him.
At least he acknowledged he wont win and admitted he really just wants his 2% of the vote to keep his party on the ballot 10/21/2008 4:00:25 PM |

he does seem to be a better choice than the other two, but:
1) He doesn't have a (D) or (R) next to his name and the (L) will probably do more harm than good...even if his views are sound.
2) Soapbox. 10/21/2008 4:00:35 PM |

I like some of the things the libertarians stand for...except for the death penalty. If anything, we need to execute MORE criminals. They didn't give a shit about anyone else's right to life or death without cruelty when they committed their crimes. 10/21/2008 4:02:57 PM |

i really really like munger. a lot. i wish he would win. but he won't. i posted the link to his "issues" site in the voting thread wherever it is. but, he supports civil unions and capital punishment reform, etc which we all know are BAD and immoral

I would, but for once the Republican party has fielded a candidate that is actually halfway decent, and I loath Purdue and couldn't stand to see her in office. 10/21/2008 5:32:40 PM |

I am voting for Munger. If you think he is the best candidate, then you should vote for him. Its foolish to not vote for someone because you think they wont win. 10/21/2008 5:49:28 PM |

HAHA LOL at 6:00 on video 2/6 of the debate
Moderator asks Perdue for some *specifics* on what she will do to reduce crime after she keeps repeating that she is "tough on crime"
The answer: "what you have to do is be tough on crime, and smart on solutions!" 10/21/2008 5:59:48 PM |

Is NOT true on a state level. 3rd party candidates can and DO win major electoral races on the state level. Vote with your conscience, not your pessimism. There's one HUGE reason to vote for Munger, which jtmartin points out.
Getting the Libertarian part on the NC ticket for the NEXT gubernatorial contest is hugely important. Munger spent a majority of his time and money on just getting on the ballot this election. If he does well enough, he has 4 years to campaign to WIN the next election, rather than starting over from scratch. It's a big win to get that leg up in 2012 and puts Munger in a position to actually win next time, especially given the total retardedness of both candidates from the major parties this time around.10/21/2008 6:53:53 PM |

^I'm going to disagree with that. Out of 100 US senators, 98 are either Democrats or Republicans (and Lieberman is only an independent because CT Democratic would not give him the nomination). Out of 50 governors, 50 are either Democrats or Republicans. So it does happen, but its extremely rare. 10/21/2008 7:10:46 PM |

^I'm not talking about national seats. I'm talking state elections. It's impossible to be elected from a 3rd party in any nationally held position, because of our retarded election system).
FYI, Pierce County WA just enacted Range Voting. to my knowledge it's the first ever in the US. should be interesting. 10/21/2008 7:21:58 PM |
