I think Spontaneous calculated it at around $12/hr if you answer one question per minute. The trick is to find a time of night where you get enough queries to fulfill that wage. 10/21/2008 10:44:52 PM |

I'm basically a parasite to cddweller. NC State also sent me a refund check for something and my dad gave me some bonds that my great grandfather left me. Supposedly, my "real" job should start soon, but we'll see.

How much of a math or economics background do you have? Are you wanting a rigorous academic treatment of game theory, or are you just looking for something conceptual and pop science-ish? 10/22/2008 12:14:14 AM |

These may be a bit higher level than what would be appropriate for your background then, but try looking for some of these at a library and see if any of them are appealing...
An Introduction to Game Theory - Martin Osborne (more economic treatment) Political Game Theory: An Introduction - Nolan McCarty, Adam Meirowitz (more poli-sci treatment) Games And Information - Eric Rasmussen Game Theory For Applied Economists - Robert Gibbons Incentives: Motivation and the Economics of Information - Donald Campbell
The first two are probably the best, but the other three are also very good. 10/24/2008 2:39:23 AM |

LOL i saw this thread and couldn't click fast enough. You got me pegged.
If you want a general intro to rational choice theory, check out:
"Notes on the Theory of Choice" by David M. Kreps (fairly technical) "Choices: An Introduction to Decision Theory" by Michael D. Resnik (a much more basic introduction)
But that's not really game theory. Still, it's a good place to start. Decisions are basically games vs. nature, so there you go.
Shadowrunner gives good advice. There's a book Dover publishes, I think it's called "Games, Theory and Applications" that's pretty good.
What in particular are you interested in within game theory? Applications? Theory?10/24/2008 2:52:05 AM |

It's worth mentioning that game theory and decision theory are nothing but some chickenshit math you could explain to your grandma
It's all easy and straight-forward... the hard part is really being clever enough to come up with the set up in the first place 10/24/2008 2:55:10 AM |
