Seriously, what the fuck?
Since people have started to vote, I asked a few I came across (about a dozen) a very simple question. "Who did you vote for?" Almost none could name a candidate he or she voted for other than the president / vice president. Of those that could name another candidate, they could only name 1 (one case US Senator, other case House of Reps.)
The reason the government is so fucked up is because YOU THE VOTERS don't even know who the fuck you're voting for and what the candidates stand for.
Before you vote, go here and enter your registered voting address to obtain a sample ballot: http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/PrecinctFinder.aspx
Don't vote for a candidate unless you know their stances. For all you know, the candidate could be a total dumbshit. 10/22/2008 6:30:21 PM |

he's probably right though...most people have no idea who they're voting for down the ballot...
I knew my federal races, and understood the ballot initiatives...no fucking clue on shit like school board (granted i live in VA and most of our smaller stuff wasn't on the ballot) 10/22/2008 6:35:15 PM |

I'm not being a douche. In fact, it doesn't even matter if they tell me who they vote for. The point is to bring this issue to their attention.
Ignorant voting is no better than not voting at all. In fact, it's probably worse.10/22/2008 6:48:24 PM |

There will always be ignorant voting. People don't like to think or put any effort whatsoever into the democracy they want the luxury of living in. 10/22/2008 6:50:35 PM |

All I cared about were three races, President, Senate, and Governor, could care less about any of the others and I only voted my party and didnt even bother with the other stuff on the ballot.
I bet you a good portion of the old folks will go straight down party line figuring they voted for President but they didnt....I about did that. You have to vote for President seperately.

to be fair, i imagine what most ppl are thinking is this (at least potentially)...
"i like candidate X. he is from a certain party and if i put more ppl in the senate and house like him, his policies will likely go through more easily. for this reason ill vote straight ticket."
this obviously doesnt work out for smaller or more state-specific races, but it is at least marginally reasonable for national level things. 10/22/2008 10:03:38 PM |

^ Asking someone who they voted for does not make me a douche, despite what you think.
^^ First off, I didn't say it was a survey and I know the statistics don't apply to the population as a whole. The point is just to draw attention to an issue I believe is a problem. If you actually did research the candidates, then good for you. You did your duty as a citizen.
^^^ I didn't just go around asking random people. I asked people who volunteered the information that they voted or were telling / encouraging others to vote. I wouldn't have thought anything of it if someone didn't want to tell me who they voted for.] 10/25/2008 8:18:07 PM |

i understand your point. and not that you said this, but it just reminded me of people stating that certain groups or people shouldn't be allowed to vote, because i don't see how those people have the right to judge who should vote or not. 10/25/2008 8:23:42 PM |

I just think there shouldn't be a "Straight Party" vote on the ballot and the party affiliations of the candidates shouldn't be printed there.

I voted the other day, and I honestly did not fill out the entire ballot. I haven't heard a peep about judges, discrict court people, education, etc. I did fill out the entire front though, plus Ag Commissioner. And I had reason for each person I voted for, it wasn't straight ticket. 10/26/2008 12:08:28 PM |
