My mom had 2. One lived to be 16 and had to be put to sleep, and the one that is still alive is 7. Both of them had all kinds of problems. Plus they stink.

1) they are not ugly
2) they are good dogs, and are not stupid. In fact, they are rather intelligent.
3) whoever said they are "gay or "chick" dogs does not know what they are talking about. Of all the toy breeds, this is the most manliest In other words, I'd rather see a guy walking one of these than any other toy breed.
4) they do shed, a lot. They do not stink, or at least they shouldn't. If your pug stinks, its your fault.

I think I've addressed all the points made here.

I love pugs. My parents have one... she's about 15 years old and more than slightly obese... but she's still really cute. They do shed a lot though. And they snore. loudly.

1. yes they are
2. they are not intelligent in the least. even veterinarians will tell you that. they are one of the more inbred breeds, and even novice dog owners know what inbreeding does for intelligence.
3. self explainatory. any single male that owns ANY toy breed has some masculinity issues
4. yes, indeed, they do shed. and my mom washed her pugs weekly and they still stank. it's the same issue with all wrinkly faced dogs. they get that funk all up in their face piece.
4.a. I didn't even mention the hip issues. BOTH my mom's pugs had really bad hips. The oldest couldn't even walk anymore and that is why he was put down. The current one is getting that way. Again, it is an issue with the breed...just ask your vet.

^^not true. depends on how well you train it and how well you maintain control.

any dog, and I mean any dog has the ability to be mean and annoying, as well as a very calm, behaved, sweet dog

not if you live in a condo... that fucker can get plenty of exercise here... big dog I would have to take to a fucking park or some shit. Pretty much I just hate pets in general and would only have one if it involved zero effort on my part

oh lord, not the whole "there are no bad dogs only bad owners" argument again. Get over it, there are bad dogs and bad breeds. And for the most part, toy breed dogs are very needy.

by any dog, I meant any breed*

not just any and every dog. sure there are ones with issues, but that's on an individual level, not a breed level.

^that's just stupid. I've seen examples of bulldogs, pitbulls, toys, etc that just proved you wrong.

I disagree, and so will most vets. certain breeds have predispositions for certain things, whether it be physical or emotional. For example: Rotties and Dobermans have a predisposition for hip displasia.

I'm talking about behavioral issues.

many breeds have some physical health issue, you can't avoid or prevent that. it's just the luck of the draw, getting a dog from a fairly clean lineage, and care

Behavioral issues are just as genetic as physical ones. Again, ask your vet if you don't believe me.

I've got plenty of knowledge from vets, vet techs, etc. you're vet must be a moron. any breed has the potential to produce good and bad dogs. their behavior is largely dependent on their raising.

you're dismissing breeds as a whole, which is ignorant. I agree that some dogs are just "bad" dogs, breeds have tendencies to act one way or another, but in the end, you can train and control nearly any dog

I too have a great deal of experience with vets and vet techs. If you must know I was pre-vet at NCSU and worked for a vet for 5 years. But I forgot, EVERYONE on TWW is an expert.

And I never denied that any breed could produce good or bad dogs. HOWEVER, I did say that certain breeds have certain predispositions for certain traits, both emotional and physical. That is widely established, and I am pretty sure even with your WIDE WIDE WIDE veterinary knowledge you can accept that fact. Certain breeds are known for their intelligence, their mild manner, etc etc. You want to keep arguing the fact we can, but you are grasping straws.

I never claimed to be an expert. You are the one dismissing whole breeds. I never said breeds didn't have their tendencies. I said that you can train and control a dog from any breed. You are basically arguing the opposite.
