I was at The State Fair today and saw Tilden Hagan (Kay's son) at the Democratic Party booth (I'd already met/spoken to Kay Hagan & David Price before & seen Obama in person too), and I also saw a Ronnie Ansley staffer at his booth who wanted to take a picture of my shirt. (it hadn't occurred to me that the stickers I had been collecting kind of fit w/ the game on msg on my shirt until she said so) And as I was about to leave the booth I, my fiance & my mom, ran into Ronnie which was cool. Working at a vet clinic I first heard about him from clients who said there is a guy running for ag commissioner w/ a great stand on animal welfare & support animal shelters & other positions as well, so I've been a fan for a while.
And I like some of his positions on energy from his website:
Quote : | "We need to focus on creating jobs, reducing fuel costs and making North Carolina the leader in food, fiber and fuel production through agriculture. We must invest in renewable-sustainable green energy sources for fuel production. These bio-fuels can be made from renewable sources – agriculture products. We must become energy independent to help lower fuel costs and cut our dependence on foreign oil." |

fuck an FFA koolaid drinker, and get a real ag degree, like agronomy or animal science. flame on, I stand by my statement.
"These bio-fuels can be made from renewable sources – agriculture products"
this will cause starvation to be an even larger world problem, we( farmers globally) just cant grow enough to feed and fuel the world. The recent hype surrounding biofuels has been part of the recent surge in grain prices and developing nations can't compete in the marketplace to buy enough grain for their starving masses. Corn is an especially egregious offender by consuming large quantities of petroleum based Nitrogen fertilizer, perpetuating the dependence on oil from somewhere. Soy beans used for bio diesel are somewhat better since they are legumes, but they come from the same supply as food grains. Its just not a great idea, but it does sound nice.

It seems like you don't understand the market and world food needs. The world produces more than enough food to feed everyone. It just never makes it to the people that need it the most.
I was looking on his website and saw some more on biofuels. It appears he wants to stop using corn and food products to instead use biomass products. However, this needs more development.
We, farmers globally, can grow enough food to feed the world and fuel the world. We just need to develop our practices more.10/26/2008 11:15:04 PM |

^here's the website referenced there if anyone's interested: http://www.ansley4ag.com/
Quote : | " Agriculture is the number one economic industry in North Carolina, contributing about $73 Billion dollars to our economy. We need real leadership to bring everyone involved together and move us forward in growing our economy, keeping our food safe and affordable, and in making North Carolina number one in bio-fuels.
Like the FFA creed states, “I believe in the future of agriculture with a faith born not of words – but of deeds.” I do believe in North Carolina’s ability to move back to being the leader in agriculture in both the US and the world. We need an agriculture commissioner that understands and can work with educators, exporters, law makers and others, as well as farmers, to put North Carolina back at the forefront of the world in agriculture." |

where are you going to grow that biomass? on the land we grow food on? pull out the CRP acres? The the food that does not reach the hungry is simply too expensive. in the most fucked up places you can buy an AK rifle made in china or eastern europe and some knock off tennis shoes, its not a logistic problem, its a price problem. Add more demand ( for the commodity itself or the space to grow it) and see what happens to prices. 10/27/2008 11:04:48 PM |

Hey dude.
I'm with you on everyone else you support except Ansley.
Dude is an opportunist to the nth degree. He's a perennial candidate who stuck his name on the ballot b/c noone else would. Having an Ag Ed degree can't tell you what it's really like being a farmer, and don't assume every Republican is a tool of "big business". Also. you don't want to break up the team over at the Dept. of Ag. My dad, a registered Democrat, works right under the Commish and Troxler needs to stay in there. Noone in the office seems to trust him.
Also, there are better alternatives than biofuels at this time. The dept. realizes this and Ansley doesn't need to come in and fuck that up.

There is a lot of research out about biomass as a fuel. Some of it says we can use our waste from food products to produce this. So, our farmers would be able to use what they currently do not use. Meaning they make more. Show me a farmer that doesn't like that.
^^PinkandBlack there are people that want Troxler gone in the Ag Department. That is politics.10/28/2008 12:33:56 AM |

there's a lot of research out but until it takes less energy to make than it will produce it doesn't matter, are they closer to that now? 10/28/2008 12:35:31 AM |

I support for him grew out of his positions on animal welfare and all the clients at the vet clinic saying such positive things about him. And then I met him and he seemed like a nice enough guy. The fact that he attended NCSU & is a Democrat didn't hurt either.10/28/2008 5:52:53 AM |
