I think this article could made the overall point without going over the top with such heavily biased attacks.

Putting blame on him for the Forrestal disaster and for getting shot down are both particularly ridiculous. So is the blame game for his behavior as a POW. Whle Dramesi's behavior was apparently exemplary, that doesn't justify the things he (and the author) say about McCain. The Code Of Conduct is not a suicide pact. On top of all that, the NVA were hardly a credible source as to what statements McCain may or may not have made, and what the article accuses him of divulging is not really important information. I mean, what was the target of his final raid? What the fuck do you think it was...maybe the place where his bombs landed about the time the Vietnamese shot him down? It's not like that would've been news to them. All in all, using McCain's conduct as a POW as ammunition against him is completely absurd. I won't get any further into the ins and outs of the grey areas of the Code Of Conduct, as I don't remember exactly what is technically classified confidential, but anyone with any measure of common sense should be able to see how ridiculous this piece is.

I agree it's very biased (and doesn't attempt to hide it), but what are you talking about here? They make it pretty clear the Forrestal wasn't his fault, and that he couldn't have stopped it. They only criticize his behavior after the fire, which seems pretty reasonable given the facts.

As for getting shot down, all they say is that he took a big gamble, then they quote from his book where he admits the same thing and says he knew he should've tried to evade the missiles. I would say they aren't being unfair there.
